Engineering Manager – Build

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee the roadmap for the Build team across UBT, TUBE, and the wider build platform.

• Take responsibility for the delivery of GitLab distributable artifacts, which include packages, container images, and cloud marketplace images.

• Promote a build-once, deploy-everywhere approach across Omnibus, CNG, and upcoming delivery targets.

• Lead the centralized management of dependencies and coordinate updates across various components.

• Ensure supply chain security by implementing SBOMs, provenance tracking, vetted dependencies, and compliant build isolation.

• Develop self-service onboarding pathways featuring standard CI templates, comprehensive documentation, and streamlined processes.

• Enhance build quality and consistency through standardized build environments and validation procedures.

• Establish observability, dashboards, and metrics to evaluate build pipelines and their impact on the platform.

• Collaborate with Delivery and related teams to facilitate onboarding and minimize coordination challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in building and managing large-scale distributed services, with the technical expertise to navigate architecture and guide the team in technical strategy.

• Proven ability to oversee services operating at four-nines (99.99%) SLOs while maintaining operational excellence.

• Skilled in utilizing AI tools to enhance team productivity.

• A track record of cultivating and managing high-performing, accountable team cultures, including making tough decisions when necessary.

• Capable of driving complex projects to successful completion without the need for a dedicated TPM.

• Experience in effectively leading distributed and remote teams.
