Engineering Manager – Authentication & Authorisation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Lead and build an engineering team dedicated to the authentication and authorization architecture for the Pliant platform.

• Begin with a small group of both existing and new backend/frontend engineers, a Product Manager, and partial Design support.

• Design scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions.

• Initially engage in hands-on contributions around 40–50%, gradually moving towards a leadership-oriented role.

• Mentor engineers and foster psychological safety through performance evaluations and honest feedback.

• Encourage effective communication, career growth, engineering excellence, test-driven bug resolution, automated testing, continuous integration, and daily production deployments.

• Work closely with Product Managers, backend/frontend engineers, and non-technical teams on business objectives, features, modifications, bug resolutions, and initiatives.

• Facilitate technical discussions, manage release schedules, and ensure automation alongside operational excellence.

• Establish and monitor quarterly team OKRs in collaboration with the Product Manager.

• Advocate for innovation, knowledge sharing, and ongoing improvement.

• Partner with colleagues on company-wide initiatives while promoting a positive culture within the team and department.

• Report to the Head of Engineering for the group.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of software development experience using Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot.

• More than 2 years of leadership or management experience.

• Strong foundation in distributed, testable, and maintainable backend systems.

• Prior experience with authentication and authorization processes.

• In-depth knowledge of REST APIs, relational databases, PostgreSQL, and microservices.

• Proven experience in leading teams, mentoring engineers, and implementing best practices.

• Enthusiasm for people management and nurturing engineering teams.

• Excellent problem-solving abilities.

• Capability to drive projects from inception to completion by leveraging team expertise.

• Familiarity with security-related infrastructure or third-party vendors is a plus.
