This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.
• Oversee the complete delivery and execution across cross-functional teams within the product domain.
• Assess business and product requirements for technical viability and architectural consistency.
• Convert requirements into EPICs and technical user stories.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers, and Engineers to refine, groom, and prioritize the backlog.
• Strategize and manage sprint execution, timelines, milestones, and dependencies.
• Advocate for engineering processes and rituals that promote collaboration, accountability, and efficiency.
• Track team velocity and capacity, optimizing resource allocation accordingly.
• Coordinate dependencies across teams and ensure alignment with stakeholders.
• Steer design decisions, uphold sound design patterns, and participate in code reviews.
• Ensure monitoring, alerting, observability, and the establishment of SLIs/SLOs for services managed.
• Define, monitor, and publish post-release product metrics in collaboration with Product Managers.
• Manage and mentor engineers, conduct performance evaluations, and encourage team development.
• Lead project status reviews and maintain effective communication between teams and leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 8–10 years of experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer, or in a similar technical role.
• At least 5 years of experience in building production systems utilizing Java and Spring Boot.
• Minimum of 3 years of engineering leadership experience managing high-performing teams.
• Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and iterative delivery.
• Ability to translate complex product requirements into EPICs, user stories, and tasks.
• Robust backend engineering expertise; frontend exposure is advantageous.
• Experience with project planning and tracking tools.
• Familiarity with engineering and product health metrics and monitoring solutions.
• Capability to debug intricate production issues, lead incident responses, and perform blameless root cause analysis.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, release management, and related metrics.
• Skill in driving alignment among technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proficiency in risk management, dependency tracking, and stakeholder communication.
• Proven track record of enhancing team velocity, delivery predictability, and engineering excellence.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, adaptability, and attention to detail.
• Experience in managing and mentoring engineers.
• Capability to assess workload and manage resource distribution effectively.
• Experience in conducting performance reviews and giving constructive feedback.
• Ability to lead project status reviews and manage stakeholder expectations.
