This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Report directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

• Lead and oversee a team of 6–8 mid-to-senior level engineers

• Manage daily operations of the team through one-on-one meetings, coaching, career growth, and performance evaluations

• Enhance the rigor of project communication and management

• Provide technical contributions via code reviews, mentoring, architecture discussions, project planning, and solution assessments

• Engage in coding tasks as desired, although this is not a primary requirement

• Spearhead the hiring process for the engineering team

• Guide the transition from a legacy PHP codebase to a modern Rails stack utilizing Ruby 4 and Rails 8

• Assist in defining the team's scope based on individual strengths and interests

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 1 year of direct experience in people management

• Proven experience in managing distributed team members

• Experience leading diverse teams

• A background in software engineering prior to management, preferably with at least 3 years of experience

• Rails experience is preferred, with an openness to flexibility

• Familiarity with AI coding tools such as Cursor, Copilot, and Claude Code

• Capability to comprehend AI-generated code, evaluate its output, and maintain accountability for delivered code

• Knowledge of Ruby on Rails, Aurora MySQL, AWS, server-rendered HTML, and basic JavaScript

• Must be able to work within the North American timezone; the majority of team members are located in the Eastern timezone
