Engineering Manager, Agent Foundations – Agent Execution

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the Agent Tools, Agent Observability, and Runner Execution teams across frontend, backend, and AI engineering.

• Recruit, onboard, mentor, and nurture engineers at all levels.

• Collaborate with product and UX teams to transform unclear challenges into tangible milestones and clarify prioritization trade-offs.

• Contribute to the technical design for the safe and efficient operation of agents at scale.

• Set standards for the group's usage of AI tools, including selection and configuration of those tools.

• Guide engineers through uncertainty in a rapidly evolving technical landscape.

• Represent the group within GitLab's AI organization and among teams reliant on the GitLab Duo Agent Platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in managing distributed engineering teams and collaborating with technical leads and staff engineers.

• Technical acumen honed through practical engineering experience.

• Proficiency in modern AI coding tools and agent harnesses.

• Capability to assist teams in integrating AI into software engineering processes and technical decision-making.

• Track record of achieving results in fast-paced settings with unclear requirements.

• Dedication to mentoring and developing engineers within a supportive, inclusive team atmosphere.

• Background in building and deploying AI products; familiarity with sandboxing, container isolation, infrastructure security, observability systems, or reliability engineering; experience with Python, Ruby, Go, or TypeScript is advantageous.
