Engineering Lead Estimator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Report directly to the Director of Engineering.

• Create comprehensive Engineering proposals for high-voltage electrical, renewable energy, and utility initiatives.

• Assess RFP packages to identify scope, schedule, deliverables, constructability, and proposal requirements.

• Generate detailed EPC cost estimates for transmission, distribution, substation, generation, and industrial electrical projects.

• Assist in complete proposal submissions, ensuring adherence to client requirements and internal standards.

• Collaborate with estimating, engineering, procurement, project controls, and other stakeholders regarding scope, pricing, execution plans, and scheduling.

• Organize and participate in site visits to collect field-level data and evaluate constructability.

• Prepare or assist in the creation of project execution plans, cost estimates, project schedules, safety and quality plans, ITP plans, risk registers, assumptions, clarifications, optional pricing, alternate proposals, and executive summaries.

• Engage with subcontractors and vendors to obtain pricing and verify scope alignment.

• Review client commercial terms and facilitate risk assessment and compliance documentation.

• Maintain records of estimate basis throughout the proposal development process.

• Lead internal estimate review meetings and final bid submission evaluations.

• Conduct formal estimate hand-off meetings with Project Management following contract award.

• Assist with change orders and adjustments to scope.

• Take part in project close-out and post-mortem reviews.

• Support CRM tracking of proposal status, client interactions, and business development metrics.

• Submit administrative documentation, including daily timesheets.

• Promote continuous improvement in estimating processes and proposal quality.

⛳️ Requirements

• Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is preferred; certification as a Journeyperson Electrician or Power Systems Electrician is a significant asset.

• At least 3 years of experience in electrical estimating, ideally within the electric utility or EPC sectors.

• Experience with renewable, distribution, and substation projects is considered an advantage.

• Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction documentation.

• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and labor productivity.

• Familiarity with estimating software such as Hard Dollar or equivalent.

• Experience with digital take-off tools like Bluebeam.

• Capability to develop project schedules using Microsoft Project and/or Primavera.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

• Familiarity with document management software such as SharePoint.

• Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, procurement, construction, and project management functions.

• Demonstrated ability to coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

• Capable of articulating estimate assumptions, risk considerations, and commercial impacts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

• Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a larger team.
