Energy Data Acquisition Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Provide technical support for the configuration, testing, and implementation of revenue and telemetry metering equipment and processes.

• Collaborate with generator owners, developers, engineering firms, and utility representatives concerning power generation development and modifications for ISO markets.

• Inspect, document, certify, and ensure the accuracy of data acquisition and control capacity for ISO metered and control entities.

• Support, maintain, and refine tariff and Business Practice Manual language related to revenue metering and telemetry policies and practices.

• Design, develop, and uphold telemetry and revenue metering standards involving PLC, RTU, DCS, EMS, SCADA, RIGs, and approved ISO meters.

• Assist market participants and engineering firms in troubleshooting design, development, and configuration challenges.

• Research, evaluate, and formulate technical solutions for tariff and BPM requirements, including addressing non-compliance matters.

• Back Full Network Model builds and New Resource Implementation deliverables for telemetry and revenue metering.

• Coordinate and analyze data for the certification of resources participating in ISO markets and contractual resource reserves.

• Offer guidance and training to internal and external clients, ISO inspectors, and meter inspection companies.

• Create and maintain business processes, desktop procedures, and other internal and external documentation.

• Verify the integrity of resources certified for ancillary services, including coordinating testing, analyzing test data, and managing resource testing databases.

• Represent the business unit as a subject matter expert during audits, installations, and configuration verifications.

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve real-time telemetry issues for the ISO control center.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent education, training, or experience in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related field.

• Equivalent years of education and training, along with two (2) or more years of relevant experience.

• Experience as a utility industry meter technician or engineer is preferred.

• Familiarity with test equipment in high voltage substations and generating plants.

• Experience in installing and/or programming revenue-grade meters used for meter data collection and calculation.

• Capability to establish metering solutions and applications for collecting meter data.

• Knowledge of regulations, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles of electrical metering instrumentation for revenue metering.

• Strong verbal and written communication and documentation abilities.

• Proficient in deductive reasoning and analytical thinking, demonstrating sound judgment and decision-making skills.

• Strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution capabilities.

• Ability to work independently under the pressure of tight deadlines and high expectations.

• Problem-solving skills and the capability to influence others without direct authority.

• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Basic understanding of telecommunications software, hardware, and circuitry as applied to WAN.

• Ability to configure internal and external analog modems.

• Capability to review and apply engineering concepts to electrical drawings, calculations, and specifications.

• Knowledge of SCADA software and telemetry technology.

• Understanding of AC/DC electrical theory using algebra and trigonometry.

• Ability to install and test meters and metering-related equipment, including utility meters, CTs, VTs, and free-standing metering devices.

• Proficient in using metering test equipment such as watt-hour test kits, burden testers, and phase sequence indicators.

• Understanding of telecommunications software, hardware, and circuitry.

• Strong background in the theory and application of current transformers, voltage transformers, and capacitive-coupled voltage devices for revenue metering.

• Understanding of various generator types, their participation in ISO markets, and their system impact.
