Employment Counsel – International

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.

📋 Description

• Oversee daily HR-related legal support for Howmet's global operations outside the United States.

• Provide guidance to Howmet's business leaders and human resources team regarding employment matters in Europe, focusing primarily on France, Germany, the UK, and Hungary.

• Manage external legal counsel for non-US employment issues in Europe, Japan, China, and Australia.

• Review and coordinate updates to employment policies and procedures in collaboration with HR partners.

• Ensure that offer letters, employment contracts, and separation agreements comply with legal standards and meet business needs.

• Oversee external legal counsel on litigation matters to safeguard the company's interests.

• Suggest practical commercial solutions to legal and business challenges and drive issues toward resolution.

• Keep the HR team updated on significant employment legislation impacting the company's operations or HR policies in Europe and Asia.

• Assist with legal matters related to recruitment, performance management, termination, internal investigations, union and Works Council relations, employee benefits, privacy, and training and development.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree.

• Active member in good standing of the relevant bar association.

• Over 8 years of post-qualification experience from a reputable international law firm.

• In-house experience is a plus.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Proficiency in French is a considerable advantage.

• High degree of integrity and discretion.

• Adequate skill and confidence in personal capabilities.

• Risk-based prioritization skills and the ability to identify options to mitigate risks and provide added value.

• Ability to articulate legal issues in an understandable manner and communicate concepts to various stakeholders at different organizational levels.

• Capacity to proactively implement processes and procedures across multiple jurisdictions.
