Electrical Engineer – Substation Design

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +8 more states.

📋 Description

• Execute specific and limited parts of broader assignments under the guidance of experienced engineers.

• Collect and correlate essential engineering data utilizing established methodologies.

• Carry out detailed or routine engineering tasks involving calculations and relatively straightforward tests.

• Suggest methods to address new challenges.

• Recognize inconsistencies in results.

• Offer mentorship to entry-level engineers.

• Conduct work within agreed budgets and timelines with moderate supervision.

• Design utility-scale physical substations within the power delivery sector.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering along with 2 years of relevant experience or proven equivalency of experience and/or education.

• Familiarity with high-voltage substation design.

• EIT certification.

• Proficient in using AutoCAD and/or Bentley MicroStation.

• Preference for a professional engineering license or the ability to obtain one within 2 years of employment.

• Knowledge of construction practices and constructability is preferred.

• Experience with proposal writing and project estimation is preferred.

• Working knowledge of scheduling and project control processes is preferred.

• Awareness of substation industry and technology trends.

• Understanding of IEEE, ANSI, and NESC codes and standards.

• Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.

• Strong verbal communication and technical writing abilities.

• Capability to assess the quality of one’s own and others’ work.

• Ability to apply sound engineering judgment.

• Effective time management and workload handling skills.

• Strong familiarity with the NEC and National Electrical Safety Code.
