This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Deliver personalized academic and college guidance to CTY Scholars students in grades 9–12.
• Build mentoring relationships while offering encouragement, accountability, and support.
• Engage with students using virtual meetings, email, text messaging, and other approved communication methods.
• Track student engagement and follow up on missed meetings or unanswered outreach.
• Maintain documentation of meetings, progress updates, and action plans while ensuring student confidentiality.
• Oversee academic progress by reviewing report cards, transcripts, and academic records.
• Identify academic challenges and implement interventions, improvement strategies, goal setting, study plans, and time management techniques.
• Provide advice on course selection and rigorous academic opportunities.
• Assist with college exploration, developing college lists, application planning, essay preparation, scholarship research, financial aid, appeals, and summer bridge programs.
• Aid in competitive applications and compose recommendation letters.
• Monitor college applications, admissions outcomes, and enrollment decisions.
• Support involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership opportunities, internships, academic enrichment, resumes, summer programs, and scholarships.
• Contribute to the planning and execution of the annual Leadership Conference.
• Advise students on PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP, and IB testing timelines and preparation.
• Oversee CTY-supported test preparation and communicate with tutoring providers and CTY staff.
• Collaborate with CTY staff and external partners while managing an assigned caseload.
• Participate on the committee responsible for selecting new cohorts as assigned.
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Three years of experience in counseling, education, or other relevant academic administrative functions.
• Additional education may substitute for experience under the JHU equivalency formula.
• Experience in advising, mentoring, counseling, or supporting high school students.
• Background in assisting students with academic planning, goal setting, or college/career preparation.
• Proven ability to establish meaningful relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Capacity to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with a team.
• Proficient in using a personal computer and text messaging.
• Capability to manage a student caseload and ensure timely documentation.
• Availability during evenings or weekends.
• Willingness to travel for program-related events or student engagement activities.
• Successful candidates will undergo a pre-employment background check.
