This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Provide administrative and editorial assistance for the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, a peer-reviewed journal by NKF dedicated to nephrology and kidney health.
β’ Conduct preliminary quality assessments on newly submitted manuscripts.
β’ Engage with authors to address submission concerns and prepare manuscripts for editorial evaluation.
β’ Examine submissions for potential conflicts involving editors or reviewers.
β’ Facilitate and oversee the peer review process by inviting reviewers, monitoring responses, sending reminders, and coordinating extensions.
β’ Alert editors when additional reviewers are necessary.
β’ Manage "Full Conflict" submissions and coordinate the Acting Editor-in-Chief process.
β’ Communicate effectively with authors, reviewers, editors, and publishing partners.
β’ Assist with author publication-charge invoicing, payment tracking, and finance/accounts receivable documentation.
β’ Enhance editorial templates, workflows, and operational procedures.
β’ Train and offer backup support and guidance to other editorial assistants.
β’ Bachelorβs degree is required, preferably in biomedical sciences, English, communications, marketing, or a related discipline.
β’ A minimum of 2β3 years of experience in an editorial office or scholarly publishing is preferred.
β’ Understanding of peer review processes is necessary.
β’ Familiarity with academic publishing platforms such as Editorial Manager is advantageous.
β’ Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
β’ Strong organizational skills with the capacity to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
β’ High attention to detail and a commitment to precision.
β’ Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision once trained.
β’ Proven professionalism and discretion in managing confidential information.
β’ Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and online manuscript management systems.
β’ Comfortable working in a fully remote setting, with daily communication primarily conducted via email and online platforms.
