This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Lead and nurture a team comprising Editorial Coordinators, Senior Editorial Coordinators, and Editorial Associates.
• Assign tasks, offer daily guidance, conduct regular check-ins, facilitate professional growth, and carry out performance evaluations.
• Manage team administrative tasks, including timesheet submissions and requests for time off.
• Raise issues related to team dynamics, management, the editorial board, and operational matters to the Associate Managing Editor.
• Work in collaboration with Editorial Management colleagues and the AME to enhance processes, address operational challenges, and improve team efficiency.
• Spearhead process modifications and oversee manuscript processing from submission to publication and beyond.
• Provide training and mentorship to production staff, identifying knowledge gaps and creating learning plans.
• Ensure timely processing and publication of accepted manuscripts, which includes author corrections, updated figures and supplementary files, proofreading, galley reviews, eLetters, corrections, and retractions.
• Maintain production timelines, trackers, galley folders, hold lists, licensing details, and schedules for advance publications.
• Supervise and support the corrections team.
• Direct responses to inquiries from authors, reviewers, and editors.
• Update and maintain production procedures, manuals, tracking documents, and associated resources.
• Act as a liaison with external production vendors, such as Straive and KriyaDocs.
• Address CTS issues and assist with system enhancements and projects.
• Coordinate with VancePak regarding publication schedules, changes, papers, and press ream requests.
• Partner with Online Operations to troubleshoot technical and display issues, ensuring issues are finalized prior to publication.
• Attend and engage in staff, Editorial Management, team, and production meetings.
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or a science-related field.
• At least 5–7 years of experience in a professional environment.
• Previous experience in personnel management.
• Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities.
• Strong competency in identifying, articulating, and resolving issues.
• Willingness to embrace new tasks, workflows, and tools in a dynamic organizational setting.
• Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time management skills, with the ability to meet stringent deadlines.
• Proven expertise in editing technical or scientific documents under tight deadlines, with a solid grasp of English grammar.
• Familiarity with researchers and research environments, along with a comfort level when engaging with them.
• Capability to work collaboratively within a team and independently when necessary.
• Strong understanding of trends and issues in STM publishing, including Open Access matters.
• Enthusiasm for acquiring new knowledge and skills pertinent to job responsibilities.
• Proficient in MS Office and Adobe software.
