This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Ensure that every case, statute, and regulation cited is valid law.
• Identify negative treatment through Shepard's citations.
• Detect cases that are either non-existent or inaccurately described.
• Confirm the accuracy of quotes, holdings, and pin cites.
• Assess the completeness of controlling authority and recognize any overlooked on-point cases.
• Maintain clarity between 50-state and multi-jurisdictional splits.
• Verify the applicable version of the law as of the operative date.
• Differentiate between binding and persuasive authority.
• Implement verify-before-finalize standards.
• Engage in projects aimed at training and improving AI systems for Mercor and its partners.
• Regular use of Lexis+—weekly or more—as part of current or recent employment.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional legal research experience.
• Proficient in the use of Shepard's / KeyCite.
• Capability to identify erroneous citations, incorrect holdings, or outdated statutes.
• Possession of a J.D. and bar admission, MLIS / law librarian degree, or equivalent research-intensive experience.
• Familiarity with Citators, Shepard's Citations Service, Shepard's Signal indicators, Depth of Discussion indicators, citing references, and overruling risk.
• Ability to differentiate between overruled, superseded, depublished, and authority distinguished on factual grounds.
• Skilled in using terms-and-connectors (Boolean), natural language, and segment searching.
• Knowledgeable in Lexis Headnotes, Case Summaries, Case Notes, Protégé, and Shepard's Graphical tools.
• Understanding of treatises, ALR, American Jurisprudence, practice guides, Practical Guidance, and 50-state surveys.
• Acquainted with annotated statutes and regulations, version comparisons, historical and effective-date versions, and currentness.
• Familiar with Litigation Analytics, Lex Machina, Brief Analysis, dockets, CourtLink, and PACER.
• Must be able to work as an independent contractor.
