Disaster Recovery Test Coordinator, Exercise Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Organize, schedule, and implement bi-annual Disaster Recovery (DR) and Continuity of Operations (COOP) exercises for enterprise applications, infrastructure, databases, and cloud systems.

• Ensure that exercises adhere to NIST, DoD, and federal continuity testing standards.

• Create exercise agendas, scenarios, evaluation criteria, and steps for recovery validation.

• Facilitate participation from engineering, cloud, database, security, and service desk teams.

• Verify Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) for essential systems.

• Document test outcomes, performance metrics, identified gaps, and recovery timelines.

• Prepare After-Action Reports (AARs), Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), and summaries of the exercises.

• Monitor remediation efforts and ensure resolution of identified issues.

• Maintain documentation related to DR testing, procedures, runbooks, and compliance artifacts.

• Conduct readiness assessments to aid in updates to the DR strategy and improvements to the COOP program.

• Collaborate with continuity, cybersecurity, and compliance teams to ensure alignment with enterprise resilience requirements.


⛳️ Requirements

• Must possess an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation.

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Risk Management, or a related discipline.

• At least 6 years of experience in disaster recovery, continuity testing, IT operations, or risk management.

• Proven experience in planning and executing DR/COOP exercises within enterprise IT settings.

• Demonstrated experience in validating RTO/RPO requirements and evaluating recovery performance.

• Experience in documenting exercise results, AARs, CAPs, and compliance documentation.

• Proven ability to coordinate efforts across engineering, cybersecurity, and operations teams.

• Strong grasp of DR/COOP frameworks, continuity readiness processes, and NIST/DoD testing guidelines.

• Knowledge of systems recovery protocols, failover operations, and resilience planning methodologies.

• Familiarity with ITIL v4 processes, particularly in incident, problem, and change management as it relates to continuity events.

• Understanding of recovery dependencies in cloud-hosted, network, and database environments.

• CompTIA Security+ certification is required.

• ITIL v4 Foundation certification is required.

• Excellent coordination, facilitation, and communication skills for cross-team exercises.

• Strong analytical skills for identifying gaps and assessing DR performance.

• Exceptional documentation skills for AARs, CAPs, and exercise summaries.

• Capable of managing multiple testing cycles and readiness initiatives.

• High attention to detail and a strong commitment to mission resilience.
