Director, US State Affairs

📋 Description

• Act as a representative for Johnson & Johnson, encompassing Innovative Medicine and MedTech, at legislative, administrative, regulatory, and executive levels of state governance and select local jurisdictions.

• Formulate and implement strategies that influence state legislative and regulatory frameworks to enhance patient and provider access while driving business growth.

• Build and sustain relationships with branches of state and local government.

• Create and promote legislative and regulatory policy initiatives in collaboration with internal partners and external stakeholders.

• Oversee relationships with trade, professional, allied, educational, labor, and various public-policy stakeholders.

• Identify, assess, and communicate legislative, regulatory, healthcare trends, and emerging issues to J&J businesses.

• Advise on and manage actions related to legislative and regulatory matters.

• Steer internal efforts on significant corporate, sectoral, and state affairs topics.

• Direct external stakeholder interactions with measurable outcomes as assigned.

• Influence state policies that promote coverage, reimbursement, and access to products and services in government programs.

• Safeguard and improve an open business environment in state and local legislation and regulations.

• Engage in and lead industry associations, steering committees, and networking organizations.

• Keep records, files, and resource materials pertaining to state government activities.

• Travel primarily within Colorado and Arizona, with potential travel to other states as required.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s or MBA is preferred.

• A minimum of 10 years of business-related experience is necessary.

• At least five years of experience in government and/or public policy is required.

• Previous experience as a lobbyist at the state or federal level is essential.

• Experience in drafting and promoting legislative and regulatory proposals is preferred.

• A comprehensive understanding of political landscapes and legislative and regulatory processes, including budget development, within assigned states is required.

• A proven track record of excellence in execution is needed.

• Ability to process substantial health, product, and public/private healthcare system information and apply it to legislative and regulatory initiatives.

• Strong influencing skills with the capability to convey complex information clearly.

• Exceptional prioritization skills, along with excellent oral and written communication abilities.

• Demonstrated capacity to tackle intricate business challenges with a solution-driven, strategic perspective.

• Familiarity with public policy issues in Colorado and Arizona is preferred.

• Specific experience in state affairs is a plus.

• Experience in leading a team while being a cooperative team member across various public policy disciplines is desired.

• Knowledge of the healthcare industry is preferred.

• A demonstrated commitment to understanding emerging technologies such as AI is beneficial.

• Willingness to travel domestically up to 60% of the time is required.

• Compliance with healthcare regulations and relevant government lobbying laws is essential.
