Director, Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the design, development, deployment, and support of custom software solutions that facilitate clinical research operations.

• Convert approved requirements, prototypes, and business concepts into secure, scalable, and maintainable production systems.

• Engage in software design, development, architecture reviews, and code reviews as an active technical leader.

• Oversee application release management, deployment processes, and ensure production readiness.

• Establish and enhance software development standards, methodologies, and lifecycle processes.

• Manage code quality, testing, CI/CD, version control, change management, release governance, and documentation.

• Specify quality metrics, review processes, and delivery standards.

• Keep technical documentation, SOPs, and audit-ready evidence up to date.

• Lead the adoption and governance of AI-assisted software development methodologies.

• Assess emerging technologies and development practices.

• Collaborate with Systems Engineering and Enterprise Architecture to create scalable application solutions.

• Define infrastructure requirements and standards for infrastructure-as-code.

• Contribute to technology roadmaps and architectural decision-making.

• Ensure adherence to quality, validation, regulatory, GxP, and SOC 2 requirements as applicable.

• Partner with Quality, Compliance, and business stakeholders regarding validation, change control, risk management, and audit readiness.

• Assist in internal and external audits with technical documentation and system evidence.

• Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers through coaching, technical guidance, performance management, and career planning.

• Foster a high-performance engineering culture.

• Prioritize initiatives, allocate resources, and manage delivery expectations.

• Create staffing plans and strategies for hiring.

• Oversee support ownership, operational readiness, and escalation processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

• Over 8 years of progressive software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in leadership roles.

• Proven track record of delivering, deploying, and supporting enterprise software applications in production settings.

• Hands-on experience in software development across web applications, APIs, and data services.

• Experience in establishing or significantly enhancing SDLC practices, including code review, testing, CI/CD, release management, and change control.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and practices within a software engineering context.

• Knowledge of cloud architecture and principles of infrastructure-as-code.

• Competence in transforming prototypes and business requirements into scalable and maintainable production solutions.

• Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to business and executive stakeholders.

• Experience developing software in regulated environments (preferred).

• Background in clinical research, life sciences, healthcare, or CRO organizations (preferred).

• Experience in scaling engineering teams, processes, or technology platforms (preferred).

• Familiarity with Azure, Entra ID, modern CI/CD platforms, and SOC 2 compliance frameworks (preferred).
