Director, Scientific Communications

📋 Description

• Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of global and US scientific communications strategies for designated therapeutic-area assets.

• Create and execute integrated, data-driven medical communications plans.

• Convert intricate scientific data into clear, engaging content for healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders.

• Design disease-state and asset-specific scientific narratives.

• Lead cross-functional teams to align content, communication channels, and external engagement strategies.

• Direct and implement Medical Communication Plans, encompassing content strategy, communication channels, external engagement planning, and congress execution.

• Develop and refine the Scientific Communication Platform, scientific narrative, and core lexicon.

• Provide strategic guidance for disease-state education, field medical materials, data dissemination assets, congress materials, and external engagement tools.

• Propel digital, omnichannel, social, interactive, AI-enabled, personalized, and automated communication initiatives.

• Collaborate with internal teams to innovate new scientific communication tools and platforms.

• Transform emerging clinical data into actionable communication strategies.

• Ensure scientific precision, evidence basis, regulatory adherence, governance, quality, and ethical communication standards.

• Lead annual planning for scope-of-work, resource distribution, agency selection, contracting, performance oversight, and optimization.

• Promote operational excellence, process enhancements, and scalable content creation.

• Guide, develop, and mentor a high-performing team.

• Enhance organizational capability through best-practice sharing and process standardization.

• Monitor advancements in scientific communications, digital engagement, and the external healthcare landscape.

• Utilize insights, analytics, and stakeholder feedback to refine communication strategies and execution.

• Report directly to the Senior Director, Medical Communications Lead.


⛳️ Requirements

• An advanced degree is required (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent in science, medicine, or a related field).

• A minimum of 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, Scientific Communications, or related roles within the pharmaceutical/biotechnology sectors.

• At least 3–5 years of prior leadership experience, including the development and management of team members.

• Proven experience in leading global communication strategies and integrated planning processes.

• Strong background in leading cross-functional teams and influencing senior stakeholders.

• Experience in Nephrology or Immunology therapeutic areas is highly preferred.

• Knowledge of publication planning and how publication plans align with broader scientific communication objectives.

• Capability to translate complex scientific data into clear, strategic communication plans.

• Strong leadership and facilitation skills, including the ability to chair cross-functional teams.

• Expertise in content strategy, omnichannel engagement, and digital communication tools.

• Excellent project management skills and experience in managing multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously.

• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with an executive presence.

• Strategic mindset, strong business acumen, and the ability to align scientific communications with organizational goals.

• Experience leveraging innovation, including AI and digital tools, to improve content development and delivery.
