Director, Product Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for product engineering efforts aligned with designated General Motors vehicle platforms and programs.

• Guide engineering teams through product development, design validation, launch readiness, and management of engineering changes.

• Act as the main engineering liaison for General Motors.

• Mentor and develop Product Engineering Managers, Senior Engineering Managers, Principal Engineers, and Product Engineers.

• Set engineering priorities and resource allocation plans.

• Represent engineering interests for specific GM platforms and vehicle programs.

• Facilitate customer design reviews, technical discussions, resolution of engineering issues, and product development initiatives.

• Direct product design, development, validation, and release processes from concept to production launch.

• Drive engineering change management processes and strategies for risk mitigation.

• Supervise engineering support for prototype builds, testing activities, and launch events.

• Lead technical problem-solving efforts throughout program development and production phases.

• Collaborate with Program Management to meet financial, timing, and quality objectives.

• Work in partnership with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Tooling, and Operations teams.

• Coordinate engineering resources across various programs, vehicle platforms, and customer initiatives.

• Oversee engineering budgets, resource usage, and project costs.

• Track engineering metrics and promote continuous improvement initiatives.

• Identify potential risks and implement corrective measures.

• Assist with strategic planning for future platform awards and opportunities for product growth.

• Ensure adherence to company standards, customer expectations, and quality systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.

• A Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

• Over 10 years of progressive experience in automotive engineering.

• More than 5 years of leadership experience managing technical teams in engineering.

• Experience supporting OEM clients, particularly General Motors.

• Proven track record in leading product development and program launch activities.

• Experience in automotive interiors, components, systems, or similar product engineering fields is preferred.

• Knowledge of product development and engineering change management processes.

• Familiarity with program launch and APQP methodologies.

• Understanding of engineering design and validation processes.

• Knowledge of manufacturing and quality systems.

• Skills in customer relationship management.

• Proficiency in budget and resource management.

• Experience in strategic planning and organizational leadership.
