This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.
• Take ownership of the i3 Platform as an internal product, maintaining a published roadmap, a prioritized backlog, and a regular schedule of delivered capabilities.
• Formulate and implement the technology organization's platform strategy in alignment with business objectives.
• Collaborate with Solution Architecture to uphold reference architectures based on the i3 Well-Architected Framework.
• Define and monitor platform KPIs such as self-service ratio, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) coverage, mean time to provision, policy violation rate, and platform adoption.
• Manage relationships with cloud service providers and platform tooling vendors effectively.
• Communicate the platform roadmap, KPIs, and investment rationale to senior technology leadership.
• Ensure consistent operating models, toolchains, and standards across AWS and Azure environments.
• Actively contribute to architectural decisions, infrastructure code reviews, and the resolution of complex technical challenges.
• Own and enhance the Terraform and Scalr Infrastructure as Code ecosystem, including module and artifact registries.
• Create reference implementations, templates, and accelerators for engineering teams.
• Promote an "Everything as Code" approach across infrastructure, configuration, policy, security controls, pipelines, and runbooks.
• Establish technical standards for the enterprise and implement security and compliance measures at the platform level.
• Conduct technical assessments, pinpoint optimization opportunities and technical debt, and lead proof-of-concept projects.
• Build, lead, and cultivate a high-performing Engineering team.
• Set performance expectations, conduct performance calibrations, and maintain individual development plans.
• Recruit, coach, mentor, and nurture engineering talent.
• Uphold quality standards, templates, and review processes for Cloud Engineers and delivery teams.
• Collaborate with Solution Architects, Cybersecurity, and Service Operations teams.
• Provide observability tools for 24/7/365 monitoring and incident response.
• Advocate for architectural thinking, technical excellence, continuous improvement, governance, reliability, and efficiency.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• Over 10 years of progressive experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or DevOps/SRE disciplines.
• Transition from hands-on engineering roles into technical leadership positions.
• Proven experience in architecting and managing large-scale, production-grade enterprise infrastructure.
• Experience in influencing technical direction and establishing platform standards across multiple teams.
• Proven track record of leading significant platform or infrastructure initiatives from concept to delivery.
• Exceptional leadership, people management, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.
• Capacity to convert business objectives into a robust platform strategy.
• Demonstrated experience in coaching and developing engineering talent.
• Extensive knowledge of AWS and/or Azure and multi-cloud architectures.
• Proficient understanding of Infrastructure as Code, including module development, state management, and governance at scale.
• Mastery of Terraform or similar tools.
• Knowledge of networking, security, and infrastructure technologies.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC2, PCI, HIPAA, FedRAMP, and CJIS.
• Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS/AKS, serverless architectures, and integration patterns.
• Programming proficiency in Python, Golang, or another comparable general-purpose language.
• Experience managing Linux and Windows-hosted workloads in cloud environments.
• Ability to review application code, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Relevant AWS or Azure certifications, or proven expertise in the Well-Architected Framework.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Preferred experience with AWS/Azure parity, multi-team or multi-cloud consolidation, multi-year platform roadmaps, vendor management, architecture review processes, internal developer platforms, Terraform + Scalr, high availability, disaster recovery, FinOps, observability, SRE, incident response, AI-assisted engineering, and AI workload platforms.
