Director of Product, Banking

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and advance the vision, strategy, and multi-quarter roadmap for banking products, encompassing customer onboarding, transaction processing, treasury, and card issuance.

• Prioritize and organize delivery across various teams, maintaining accountability for the entire process from discovery to launch and subsequent iterations.

• Independently define unclear, complex, cross-functional projects into precise requirements and deliverables.

• Personally draft PRDs, product specifications, and user stories.

• Analyze data, edge cases, ledger and reconciliation logic, as well as regulatory considerations.

• Establish and uphold processes and standards for product discovery, prioritization, specification quality, and launch reviews.

• Recruit, mentor, and develop product managers while creating transparent growth pathways.

• Provide guidance to distributed teams across various regions and time zones through asynchronous and inclusive leadership methods.

• Collaborate with engineering, design, data, compliance, risk, legal, and go-to-market teams.

• Ensure that banking products comply with regulatory, security, financial control, risk monitoring, and fraud mitigation standards.

• Effectively communicate strategy, progress, investment cases, and trade-offs to executives and stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Approximately 12–18 years of relevant experience in product management, including over 5 years in leadership and management roles; demonstrated impact takes precedence over years of experience.

• Extensive expertise in banking and/or payments domains.

• Successfully shipped core banking, payments, lending, or similar financial products at scale.

• Direct experience with multiple domains, including customer onboarding, transaction processing, treasury solutions, and card issuance.

• Familiarity with ACH, RTP/FedNow, checks, cross-border payments, and multi-currency management.

• Proven experience in delivering compliant payment products with robust risk monitoring and fraud controls.

• Knowledge of treasury products that enhance deposit growth and interest income.

• Understanding of card issuance programs that generate interchange income.

• Working knowledge of ledgering and reconciliation principles.

• Demonstrated ability to establish product strategy and translate it into a viable roadmap.

• Capability to independently scope and guide complex, cross-functional initiatives from ambiguity to successful delivery.

• Hands-on experience in product operations, including drafting PRDs and user stories.

• Experience in building and scaling product organizations through hiring, coaching, and implementing processes and standards.

• Strong track record of mentoring and leading distributed, global teams across various time zones.

• Proficiency in collaborating with engineering and design teams on technical trade-offs.

• Comfort in navigating compliance, risk, regulatory, security, and financial control constraints.

• Exceptional judgment, communication, and stakeholder management skills at the executive level.

• Nice-to-have: experience with domestic and cross-border payment rails, treasury or card issuance programs, platform or API products, fraud/risk/financial crime tools, and launching products in new markets.

• Nice-to-have: a technical background or degree in a quantitative discipline.
