Director of Engineering – Integration Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Lead the engineering team responsible for the Unite Integrations Builder and the Integration Platform.

• Set the technical direction, execution priorities, and engineering standards.

• Own the engineering strategy and the technical roadmap for a scalable integration platform.

• Drive the architecture and evolution of APIs, connectors, webhooks, event-driven integrations, workflow automation, authentication/authorization, data mapping, and reusable integration services.

• Collaborate with Product Management to define platform capabilities, assess technical approaches, provide delivery estimates, and convert product strategy into actionable engineering plans.

• Develop platform functionalities for creating, configuring, testing, deploying, monitoring, and managing integrations via the Unite Integrations Builder.

• Establish API-first and platform engineering standards that foster extensibility, reuse, security, backward compatibility, reliability, and a positive developer experience.

• Ensure enterprise-grade availability, performance, observability, governance, and security throughout the Integration Platform.

• Work closely with product engineering, architecture, QA, SRE/DevOps, security, support, sales engineering, and partner teams.

• Define engineering metrics and operational mechanisms to enhance delivery predictability, platform adoption, quality, reliability, performance, technical debt, and developer productivity.

• Mentor engineering managers and senior technical leaders while promoting accountability, technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.

• Oversee technical reviews and architectural decisions for complex integration and platform initiatives.

• Identify opportunities to leverage AI in integration development, configuration, mapping, troubleshooting, documentation, and workflow creation.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, including substantial engineering leadership experience managing managers and/or multiple software development teams.

• Proven track record in defining and executing technical roadmaps for scalable, highly available cloud software products and platforms.

• Strong knowledge of software architecture, APIs, distributed systems, cloud-native development, security, observability, and modern software development lifecycle practices.

• Demonstrated experience in partnering with Product Management to translate business strategy and product roadmaps into actionable engineering plans, estimates, milestones, and technical investments.

• Experience in building high-performing engineering organizations through hiring, coaching, performance management, succession planning, and developing engineering leaders and senior technical talent.

• In-depth knowledge of Agile development, CI/CD, automated testing, code quality, release management, and DevOps/SRE practices.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the capacity to make sound technical and organizational decisions in a dynamic environment.

• Excellent communication and leadership abilities, including the skill to influence executives, product leaders, architects, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders.

• Experience with enterprise integration platforms, iPaaS concepts, integration builders, workflow/orchestration engines, or developer platforms.

• Familiarity with REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven architecture, messaging, queues, and asynchronous processing.

• Experience with OAuth 2.0/OIDC, API authentication and authorization, secrets management, and secure third-party connectivity.

• Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and/or AWS; familiarity with containers and cloud-native services is highly preferred.

• Knowledge of API lifecycle management, versioning, developer portals/SDKs, observability, rate limiting, and platform governance.

• Experience integrating SaaS/enterprise applications like CRM, productivity, communications, contact center, or collaboration platforms is highly desirable.

• Experience using AI/LLMs to enhance developer tooling, integration creation, workflow automation, or platform experiences is a plus.
