This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the engineering team and take charge of the technical strategy, architecture, quality, security, delivery, and the growth of the engineering personnel.
• Make crucial architectural choices, which include significant technology selections, build-versus-buy determinations, site scalability, and carrier integrations.
• Perform reviews of product and infrastructure security, along with vendor security questionnaires and audits.
• Act as the primary technical contact and leader for key partnerships.
• Manage release processes and deployments, encompassing CI/CD, release cadence, rollbacks, and ensuring production stability.
• Prioritize addressing technical debt and refactoring in relation to feature velocity.
• Oversee QA and testing protocols, including automated coverage, manual QA, and standards for release quality.
• Coordinate on-call rotations, escalation processes, incident responses, and postmortem analyses.
• Mentor engineers through one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, career development, and by removing obstacles.
• Build and onboard the engineering team as the organization expands.
• Approve internal software solutions based on cost, security, and suitability, including renewals and replacements.
• Manage expenses related to engineering tools and infrastructure, including cloud expenditures, licenses, and opportunities for consolidation.
• Own and enhance the company’s AI policy and best practices while spearheading AI implementation.
• Collaborate on OKRs, product priorities, technical debt, delivery schedules, design QA, security assessments, integrations, and reliable data flow.
• Report directly to the Chief Product Officer.
• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering.
• More than 5 years in a management role overseeing engineers.
• At least 2 years in a senior engineering leadership position (Director or the highest technical leader), preferably in an early-stage startup or a rapidly evolving environment.
• Proficient in TypeScript, Next.js, Node, GraphQL, Postgres, and AWS.
• Demonstrated ownership of technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for a consumer-facing product in production.
• Experience in building or scaling the team responsible for delivering a production consumer product.
• Comfortable with reviewing pull requests, deeply analyzing code, and engaging in incident management.
• Knowledgeable in application security and third-party compliance, including security reviews, vendor questionnaires, and audits.
• Proven track record of effective cross-departmental communication and relationship-building that leads to business success.
• Genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted development.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
• Preferred: Experience in the insurance or fintech industries, or familiarity with partner API integrations.
