This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of delivery across squads, encompassing capacity planning, forecasting, and ensuring visibility into commitments.
• Advocate for the feasibility, methodology, and costs associated with engineering commitments.
• Organize technical tasks and proactively highlight delivery risks.
• Establish standards for design reviews, code reviews, testing, and documentation practices.
• Responsible for reliability, monitoring, and incident response efforts.
• Ensure on-call responsibilities are manageable and sustainable.
• Collaborate with staff engineers to guide architectural direction and promote shared-platform usage.
• Minimize operational overhead through automation, replatforming, and the decommissioning of outdated systems.
• Make technical debt transparent and actionable for funding.
• Mentor, lead, and develop engineering managers, focusing on hiring, performance evaluations, and career growth.
• Cultivate tech leads and senior engineers.
• Define and monitor engineering health metrics.
• Communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs to engineering leadership, product teams, and executives.
• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering.
• More than 4 years of experience in a leadership role overseeing engineers.
• Proven ability to lead through other managers or senior technical leaders.
• Demonstrated history of delivering complex B2B software, preferably in SaaS, fintech, regtech, compliance, trust and safety, or other sectors where precision and defensibility are as crucial as speed.
• Experience managing delivery across multiple teams, including capacity planning, forecasting, and dependency management.
• Established credibility in estimation and a history of reliable commitments.
• Experience collaborating with a product counterpart at the same level.
• In-depth technical knowledge in architecture, API and integration design, and data modeling.
• Experience utilizing a shared platform or paved road instead of constructing parallel infrastructure for each team.
• Strong understanding of reliability practices, including observability, incident response, and maintaining a sustainable on-call system.
• Proven experience in hiring, developing, and retaining engineers and engineering managers.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
