This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the daily operations and advancement of the engineering department.
• Guide and mentor engineers and technical leads.
• Identify and nurture high performers and potential technical leaders.
• Tackle performance issues promptly and directly.
• Manage the engineering recruitment and onboarding processes.
• Foster accountability for engineering output across various teams.
• Track capacity, commitments, dependencies, and associated risks.
• Address cross-team dependencies, conflicting priorities, and delivery obstacles.
• Promote the use of AI-assisted development methods throughout coding, testing, documentation, automation, and the development lifecycle.
• Enhance developer efficiency, team productivity, software quality, and responsible AI practices.
• Collaborate with the Product team regarding capacity, feasibility, risk, trade-offs, roadmap, and prioritization.
• Translate product priorities into achievable engineering commitments.
• Communicate potential risks and act as an escalation point for delivery, staffing, and organizational concerns.
• Build trust while gaining insight into team structures, processes, strengths, constraints, and challenges.
• Establish regular one-on-ones, maintain leadership visibility, and monitor delivery risks, team health, and organizational capacity.
• Suggest enhancements to execution, planning, staffing, team organization, and ownership delineations.
• Minimize the operational involvement of the SVP of Engineering.
• Develop a predictable, transparent, and high-performing engineering organization.
• Report directly to Alan Spadoni, SVP of Engineering.
• Proven experience in leading and developing engineers across various product teams.
• Background in performance management, recruitment, and career development.
• Experience in leading technical leads and senior engineers.
• Adequate technical knowledge to grasp engineering trade-offs and gain the trust of seasoned developers.
• Track record of enhancing organizational effectiveness while preserving a robust engineering culture.
• Capability to drive the adoption of AI-assisted development and assess its impact on developer productivity, quality, or delivery.
• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Should effectively address performance issues, delivery risks, staffing shortages, ownership boundaries, and organizational challenges.
