Director of Data Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the data roadmap and the company's data model, creating a unified source of truth for essential business data.

• Refactor outdated jobs and address technical debt to ensure the platform can scale alongside the business.

• Ensure the maintenance of resilient data pipelines and provide trusted, accurate, and accessible data.

• Oversee warehouse and infrastructure expenditures as data volumes increase.

• Conduct intake sessions and manage sprint cycles, prioritizing requests based on their business impact.

• Lead and mentor a small team through code evaluations, constructive feedback, and career development paths.

• Integrate enterprise systems such as ERP into the data warehouse.

• Transform the team into an AI-native unit by utilizing AI agents for development, incident analysis, and data quality assurance.

• Develop an enterprise-level data function with streamlined models and minimized technical debt.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in data architecture or data engineering.

• More than 3 years of experience in team leadership.

• Proven track record in building and scaling cloud data platforms (e.g., BigQuery or similar).

• Proficient in SQL, Python, and dbt or a comparable modeling framework.

• Extensive experience in data modeling, beginning with business concepts prior to table creation.

• Familiar with building practices for data quality, governance, and monitoring.

• Experience in managing sprint-based intake and prioritization for teams serving multiple stakeholders.

• Comfortable working with ELT tools such as Fivetran, Orbitrail, and enterprise systems.

• ERP experience is an advantage.

• A background in DTC or CPG is preferred.
