This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.
• Oversee and defend labor and employment claims as well as administrative charges.
• Provide guidance to Human Resources and management regarding litigation risks and supervise external employment legal counsel.
• Manage commercial contract disputes from the negotiation phase through to trial.
• Prepare and manage regulatory filings and respond to inquiries, investigations, and enforcement actions.
• Represent the organization in contested regulatory and administrative proceedings.
• Act as the company’s representative in mediations and alternative dispute resolution processes.
• Develop mediation statements, assess settlement ranges, create negotiation strategies, and draft or review agreements and releases.
• Collaborate with Finance and Accounts Receivable on affirmative collection issues.
• Address trademark, copyright, patent, and trade-secret disputes.
• Manage disputes related to privacy and data protection, including claims, investigations, and regulatory inquiries.
• Assist Risk Management in defending against workers’ compensation and third-party claims.
• Lead case assessments, discovery, motion practices, hearings, and trial preparations.
• Implement litigation holds and coordinate e-discovery and document preservation efforts.
• Select, direct, and oversee outside counsel while managing litigation budgets, strategies, and settlement positions.
• Simplify complex legal issues into actionable, business-focused advice for executives and cross-functional teams.
• Prepare regular reports for senior leadership detailing matter status, exposure, reserves, and significant developments.
• Report directly to the Vice President, Assistant General Counsel, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer.
• Collaborate with business leaders, Human Resources, Finance, Risk Management, Operations, and Compliance teams.
• Approximately 4–7 years of litigation experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or a combination of both.
• Capability to independently manage matters from initiation through to resolution.
• Significant experience in various relevant areas, especially employment, commercial, privacy, consumer protection, regulatory, intellectual property, or workers’ compensation matters.
• Strong understanding of litigation strategy, procedures, mediation, and negotiation techniques.
• Good judgment in evaluating risk and exposure.
• Proficiency in translating legal issues into practical advice and effectively communicating with executives, business teams, and external stakeholders.
• Ability to handle a high-volume, multi-practice caseload and prioritize effectively amidst competing deadlines.
• Experience in selecting and managing outside counsel, litigation strategies, budgets, and expenditures.
• Exceptional written and oral advocacy skills.
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing in at least one state bar where the company operates.
• Ability to secure any necessary admission or in-house counsel authorization.
• Self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable working with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• First- or second-chair trial, arbitration, or hearing experience is preferred.
• Prior experience supporting a corporate legal department is preferred.
• Familiarity with major privacy and consumer protection regulations, including state comprehensive privacy laws, the FTC Act, and equivalent state statutes is preferred.
