This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Oversee legislative and regulatory initiatives that impact IGS's renewable energy operations, including solar, battery storage, community solar, virtual power plants, and distributed energy resources.

• Design and implement advocacy strategies aimed at state utility commissions, legislatures, energy offices, and regulatory bodies.

• Establish and nurture relationships with commissioners, legislators, policymakers, utilities, regulators, renewable energy organizations, and industry stakeholders.

• Track, assess, and convey legislative, regulatory, and market changes across IGS's operational regions.

• Lead the preparation of regulatory comments, testimony, policy papers, legislative proposals, and advocacy materials.

• Represent IGS in front of utility commissions, legislative committees, trade associations, industry coalitions, and renewable energy working groups.

• Shape policy development concerning net energy metering, interconnection, distributed generation, battery storage, virtual power plants, renewable portfolio standards, permitting, and customer renewable energy initiatives.

• Collaborate with Solar Operations, Business Development, Finance, Legal, Regulatory, and Executive Leadership to address regulatory impacts and formulate strategic responses.

• Ensure that business practices conform to changing regulatory requirements and consumer protection standards.

• Identify legislative and regulatory opportunities that foster business growth and market expansion.

• Work alongside external counsel, lobbyists, consultants, and trade organizations.

• Deliver policy updates, strategic guidance, and regulatory insights to executive leadership.


⛳️ Requirements

• Deep understanding of renewable energy policy, distributed energy resources, residential and commercial solar, battery storage, and utility regulatory frameworks.

• Familiarity with state utility commission processes, legislative advocacy, and utility program development.

• Capacity to interpret intricate regulatory proceedings and convert them into actionable business strategies.

• Exceptional written communication abilities, encompassing the drafting of testimony, amendments, regulatory comments, legislative analyses, or policy recommendations.

• Proficient at advocating in front of regulators, legislators, utilities, and industry organizations.

• Skills in coalition-building and relationship management with policymakers, utilities, renewable energy stakeholders, and trade associations.

• Strategic mindset with the ability to foresee legislative and regulatory trends.

• Proven ability to influence cross-functional business leaders and manage competing priorities effectively.

• Capable of working independently while juggling multiple complex initiatives.

• Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and communication skills.

• Experience in managing political action committee budgets.

• A degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Environmental Policy, Energy, Engineering, Business, Economics, or a related field is preferred.

• A Juris Doctor or Master's degree in Public Policy, Energy, Environmental Policy, or a related field is preferred.

• At least 8 years of relevant experience in public policy, legislative affairs, regulatory affairs, government affairs, or renewable energy advocacy; or 5 years with a JD and directly relevant experience.

• Experience with state utility commissions, legislatures, public utilities, or renewable energy organizations is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with supporting solar, distributed energy resources, battery storage, or other clean energy technologies is preferred.

• Established relationships with regulators, legislators, utility leaders, renewable energy associations, and industry stakeholders are highly desirable.

• Experience in residential and commercial solar markets.

• Knowledge of distributed generation, interconnection policy, net energy metering, community solar, battery storage, virtual power plants, and utility rate design.

• Participation in SEIA, regional solar associations, EEI, NARUC, or similar industry groups is advantageous.

• Understanding of renewable energy incentives, tax credits, clean energy standards, and state energy policy.

• Proven track record of successfully influencing legislation or regulatory policy to support renewable energy market growth.

• Must be authorized to work in the US full-time; current or future sponsorship is not provided.
