Director, Global Commodity Management

📋 Description

• Oversee the global commodity-management organization for direct materials, special processes, outsourced services, tooling, and strategic indirect categories.

• Guide, mentor, and develop Regional Commodity Managers while establishing global strategies, governance, performance expectations, and capability standards.

• Formulate and implement global commodity strategies in alignment with customer demand, manufacturing capabilities, supplier competencies, cost, quality, delivery, and supply-continuity requirements.

• Manage global sourcing, supplier selection, and negotiation strategies; negotiate and execute long-term agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and necessary customer, quality, regulatory, and export-control flow-downs.

• Create and maintain analyses for should-cost, clean-sheet, PPV, inflation, surcharge, and market-index.

• Achieve results in productivity, site-level cost reduction, working capital management, and commercial-risk mitigation.

• Cultivate strategic supplier relationships, conduct executive business reviews, manage supplier scorecards, corrective actions, recovery plans, and performance escalations.

• Oversee supplier capacity, lead times, long-lead material exposure, dual-source strategies, business-continuity plans, geopolitical risk, trade compliance, and supply-continuity risks.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Finance, Commercial, and Program Management on RFQs, RFPs, make-buy decisions, qualification activities, supplier transitions, and new product introduction sourcing.

• Administer global demand and supply reviews, addressing demand changes, supplier commitments, expedites, inventory exposure, and excess or obsolete materials.

• Conduct strategic contract reviews to safeguard Barnes from schedule, quality, warranty, liability, price escalation, and revenue risk exposure.

• Standardize global sourcing processes, supplier data governance, and KPI reporting through MRP/ERP, Coupa, Power BI, and other digital tools.

• Represent Global Supply Chain in executive reviews, customer and supplier discussions, M&A sourcing integration, and cross-functional transformation initiatives.

• Travel may be required at a rate of 20–40%.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related field, along with ten (10) or more years of progressive experience in aerospace procurement, strategic sourcing, or commodity management.

• Five (5) or more years of leadership experience, including managing geographically dispersed teams, developing leaders, and fostering accountability through established operating rhythms and metrics.

• Proven global aerospace experience in managing direct materials, special processes, outsourced services, and complex tiered supply chains.

• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute global commodity strategies, negotiate complex agreements, and achieve cost, cash, quality, delivery, and risk-reduction outcomes.

• Advanced knowledge in aerospace supplier qualification and performance management, including AS9100, Nadcap, customer flow-downs, corrective action, supplier risk, and quality-system requirements.

• Familiarity with global trade compliance, customs, Incoterms, sanctions, restricted-party screening, export controls, duty/tax considerations, and responsible sourcing requirements.

• Experience in managing raw material market exposure and commercial terms, including indices, inflation, surcharges, price protection, productivity, rebates, and customer/supplier pass-through provisions.

• Proven capability to lead cross-functional sourcing decisions involving Engineering, Quality, Operations, Finance, Commercial, and program teams; strong negotiation and communication skills at the executive level.

• Advanced analytical skills using MRP/ERP, Excel, and presentation tools to manage demand, supply, supplier commitments, and prepare executive-ready business cases.

• High-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables and lookup functions; adept in Word and PowerPoint.

• Ability to work on ITAR programs and support SBLO programs.

• U.S. Person status or appropriate export-control licensing may be required for access to controlled information or technology.

• Equivalent relevant industry experience will be considered in lieu of the stated bachelor's degree.

• Preferred: Master’s degree; professional certifications such as CPSM, CSCP, CPIM, CIPS, Six Sigma, Lean, ACE, or equivalent; experience with Coupa; advanced Power BI skills; experience in leading global aerospace commodity strategies, supplier consolidation, supply-base resilience, and strategic sourcing integration; knowledge of REACH, RoHS, conflict minerals, and related customer requirements.
