Director, EMEA Government Affairs – Public Policy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Establish and oversee Chainguard’s policy strategy for Europe, which includes setting priorities, defining positions, identifying target institutions and officials, and crafting the policy narrative.

• Collaborate with governments, regulators, and standards organizations throughout Europe and the UK, such as the European Commission, European Parliament, ENISA, CEN-CENELEC, and ETSI.

• Assess when to utilize industry coalitions versus direct advocacy and represent Chainguard within relevant organizations.

• Anticipate political and policy developments that are pertinent to Chainguard.

• Formulate policy positions, prepare consultation responses, and create written submissions.

• Represent Chainguard at public and industry conferences.

• Convert technical concepts into policy language and interpret emerging requirements in relation to messaging and strategic roadmap.

• Assist product, marketing, and revenue teams by providing policy credibility and positioning.

• Establish consistent European government affairs processes, build relationships, and develop intelligence channels.

• Contribute to the development of a regional team as the business expands.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of directly applicable experience in government affairs or public policy.

• Proven experience in developing or enhancing a government affairs program or guiding regulations, standards, or policy strategies to successful outcomes.

• Experience engaging with senior officials.

• Capability to interpret complex technical subjects for policy audiences.

• Comfort in navigating ambiguity with minimal supervision and demonstrating a resourceful, proactive approach.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• A degree and/or equivalent experience in the relevant field.

• Located in Europe and available for frequent travel across the region.

• Preferred: experience in multi-country European policy or government affairs.

• Preferred: proficiency in one or more European languages in addition to English.

• Preferred: experience in government affairs across both public and private sectors.

• Preferred: familiarity with ENISA, CEN-CENELEC, ETSI, and major European regulatory and standardization bodies related to cybersecurity.

• Preferred: understanding of the CRA conformity assessment framework and EU/UK lobbying transparency registers.

• Preferred: experience representing a company through industry coalitions or trade associations.

• Preferred: knowledge of software supply chain security, cybersecurity, or AI topics.

• Preferred: experience in a high-growth company environment.
