Director – Developer Platforms, Infra, Data Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Lead the evolution of platform, infrastructure, and engineering capabilities that support highly scalable and reliable systems across Carousell Group.

• Foster agentic engineering and promote AI integration within engineering teams, applying AI methodologies to engineering workflows and software development.

• Offer technical guidance across Platform Engineering, Infrastructure / SRE, and Data Engineering disciplines.

• Make architectural decisions relating to Platform Engineering, Infrastructure / SRE, and Data Engineering.

• Direct the design and management of highly scalable distributed systems.

• Enhance reliability, performance, observability, and operational excellence.

• Collaborate with engineering leaders to boost developer productivity, engineering velocity, and system reliability.

• Build and nurture the engineering leadership layer.

• Assist Principal and Senior Engineers in developing their technical leadership skills.

• Lead distributed engineering teams through managerial roles.

• Promote engineering excellence across service runtime, observability, scaling, service communication, data consistency, developer tooling, networking, security, and infrastructure.

• Own and influence investments in infrastructure and platform, with a focus on engineering efficiency and cloud cost optimization.

• Collaborate with Product, Data, Engineering, and executive stakeholders to shape the technical strategy and influence business outcomes.

• Operate across diverse markets, teams, and cultures within Carousell Group.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in leading large-scale engineering organizations in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure / SRE, and/or Data Engineering.

• Profound technical expertise in at least two of the three domains, with sufficient breadth across all three to effectively lead teams of specialized professionals.

• Strong practical experience in driving the adoption of AI-native or agentic engineering within an engineering organization.

• Solid expertise in distributed systems architecture and design.

• A proven track record of successfully building, scaling, and operating high-scale platforms or systems.

• Experience in spearheading complex technical initiatives from architectural conception through execution and operations.

• Strong technical judgment with the capability to engage credibly with Principal and Senior Engineers.

• Experience in mentoring and developing Principal / Senior Engineers while establishing robust technical leadership pipelines.

• Familiarity with managing cloud infrastructure or platform costs at a significant scale.

• Experience leading distributed engineering organizations of 15–30+ engineers through an EM layer.

• Background in working within a multi-brand, multi-market, or multi-business-unit organization.

• Experience collaborating across different geographies and cultures.

• Exceptional executive communication skills and stakeholder influence.
