Director, Commerce Cloud Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technical leaders excelling in SAP Commerce Cloud.

• Establish engineering best practices, coding guidelines, and agile methodologies within the platform team.

• Promote innovation, quality, and accountability within the engineering department.

• Drive the architectural vision and technical roadmap for SAP Commerce Cloud for both B2B and/or B2C.

• Make informed technical decisions and manage integrations with SAP S/4HANA, ERP, CRM, and external systems.

• Ensure a scalable, modular, and future-ready architecture that aligns with enterprise strategies.

• Supervise the planning, estimation, and execution of engineering deliverables and product releases.

• Convert business requirements into technical solutions in collaboration with Product Management and UX teams.

• Monitor performance metrics, engineering velocity, and delivery quality.

• Collaborate with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to enhance CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment strategies.

• Support shift-left testing, security measures, and performance validation.

• Work alongside product, QA, operations, and business teams.

• Manage relationships with external development partners and SAP technical consultants.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline.

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering.

• More than 5 years of expertise in SAP Commerce Cloud (Hybris) development and architecture.

• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Framework, REST APIs, and microservices architecture.

• Experience in cloud-native development and deployment, especially SAP Commerce Cloud in public cloud settings.

• Proven track record of leading large-scale, customer-facing commerce platforms.

• Extensive knowledge of integration patterns with SAP backend systems, including S/4HANA, SAP ERP, and SAP CPI.

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.

• SAP Certified Development Specialist in SAP Commerce Cloud.

• Experience with headless commerce, composable architecture, and MACH principles.

• Knowledge of Angular, React, or Spartacus.

• Background in performance tuning, load testing, and site reliability engineering.

• Typically 12 or more years of progressive responsibility and complexity in relevant professional experience.

• At least 5 years of management experience.

• Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, team-building, planning, organizational, negotiation, and strategic planning abilities.

• Capability to lead virtual teams and handle complex projects.

• Proficient in working with senior management, key stakeholders, and internationally distributed teams.

• Travel is generally less than 15%.
