Director, AI Assisted Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Louisiana.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance GDIT’s AI-Assisted Development capabilities.

• Create strategies, operational models, practices, and technical frameworks for AI-driven software design, development, testing, and delivery.

• Assess and streamline the use of AI-enabled tools and platforms throughout the organization.

• Act as the internal authority on the application and integration of AI-enabled tools.

• Establish best practices and enhance engineers' skills.

• Transform AI-assisted development into a market-ready enterprise capability.

• Provide technical leadership, architectural direction, go-to-market assistance, and manage organizational change.

• Evaluate the organization's AI-development maturity and develop roadmaps, capability models, and strategies for adoption.

• Define and implement operational frameworks addressing team structure, sprint planning, code reviews, and delivery optimization.

• Identify, recruit, mentor, and expand engineering teams.

• Develop educational programs for developers, including playbooks, best practices, and communities of practice.

• Offer architectural insights regarding the influence of AI on design patterns, quality models, and delivery processes.

• Advance technical vision, architectural standards, and execution across complex multi-team initiatives.

• Lead full software development life cycle (SDLC) and product lifecycle delivery in agile and hybrid settings.

• Establish operational and engineering standards such as CI/CD, DevSecOps, TDD/BDD, automation frameworks, and quality engineering.

• Create solutions within distributed, cross-functional, and geographically dispersed teams.

• Transform internal capabilities into customer-facing products or services.

• Manage relationships with vendors, including OEMs and ISVs.

• Promote organizational adoption of new AI, development, and architectural trends.

⛳️ Requirements

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

• Over 5 years of progressive software engineering experience, including 3-5+ years in technical leadership roles.

• Proven track record in building and managing high-performing engineering teams, with a focus on coaching, mentorship, and skill development.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

• US Citizenship is required.

• Strong understanding of AI-enabled development processes, including prompt-engineering patterns, code-generation cycles, safety/quality validation, architectural implications, and ROI tracking for AI and autonomous automation.

• Ability to evaluate organizational AI-development maturity and create roadmaps, capability models, adoption strategies, and innovative operational models.

• Direct experience in evaluating, selecting, and implementing AI-enabled development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Azure AI, OpenAI models, and Claude Code.

• Hands-on experience with LLM-based frameworks and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

• Capability to identify, recruit, mentor, and expand engineers skilled in AI-assisted development techniques, responsible usage, productivity strategies, and integration methods.

• Experience in developing educational resources for developers, including playbooks, best practices, or internal communities of practice.

• Experience serving as an internal Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing architectural insights.

• Demonstrated capability to drive technical vision, architectural standards, and execution across intricate, multi-team programs.

• Experience leading the full SDLC and product lifecycle in agile and hybrid environments.

• Solid background in implementing CI/CD, DevSecOps, TDD/BDD, automation frameworks, and quality engineering practices.

• Experience in developing solutions within distributed, cross-functional, or geographically dispersed teams.

• Proficient in full-stack development across various programming languages, including Java, JavaScript, Python, and .NET.

• Hands-on experience with contemporary front-end and back-end frameworks such as Angular, React, Spring Boot, Django, and Next.js.

• Experience in implementing and integrating solutions across Linux, Unix, RHEL, and OpenShift.

• Extensive experience with API/web service design, secure coding standards, and scalable architectural patterns.

• Preferred: Knowledge of Federal acquisition and security compliance, including FedRAMP and ATO implications.

• Preferred: Experience in building an enterprise AI-assisted development capability or platform.

• Preferred: Previous experience in transforming internal capabilities into customer-facing products or services.

• Preferred: Familiarity with AWS, Azure, GCP, AI/ML services, and vendor relationship management.

• Preferred: Expertise in CI/CD automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Policy as Code, governance automation, Terraform, and Ansible.

• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence senior leadership.

• Proven ability to stay updated with emerging AI, development, and architectural trends and to drive organizational adoption strategies.
