Director, AI Assisted Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance the organization's AI-Assisted Development capabilities.

• Create strategies, operating models, practices, and technical foundations to support AI-enabled software development.

• Revolutionize the methods teams utilize to design, build, test, and deliver software solutions and products.

• Assess and rationalize AI-enabled tools and platforms throughout the organization.

• Serve as the internal authority on the use and integration of AI-enabled tools.

• Establish best practices and enhance the skill sets of engineering teams.

• Implement AI-assisted development as a comprehensive capability for market delivery.

• Offer technical leadership, architectural guidance, market support, change management, and hands-on engineering expertise.

• Define roadmaps, capability models, strategies for adoption, and optimized engineering operating models.

• Identify and execute team structures, sprint planning, code review, and delivery practices.

• Create educational programs for developers, playbooks, best practices, and communities of practice.

• Provide architectural advice on AI-driven design patterns, quality models, and delivery processes.

• Propel the technical vision, architecture standards, and execution across intricate multi-team programs.

• Oversee the full SDLC and product lifecycle delivery in both agile and hybrid environments.

• Develop and integrate full-stack software solutions across various platforms and frameworks.

• Convert technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and influence senior management.

• Promote the organizational adoption of emerging AI, development, and architectural trends.

• Travel is limited to less than 10%.

⛳️ Requirements

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Over 5 years of progressive experience in software engineering.

• 3–5+ years of experience in technical leadership roles is required.

• Demonstrated experience in building and leading high-performing engineering teams, with a focus on coaching, mentorship, and capability development.

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

• US Citizenship is required.

• Strong knowledge of AI-enabled development workflows, including prompt engineering, code-generation improvement loops, safety/quality validation, and architectural impacts.

• Capability to identify, track, and articulate ROI related to AI and agentic automation.

• Experience in assessing organizational AI-development maturity and defining roadmaps, capability models, and adoption strategies.

• Direct experience in evaluating, selecting, and operationalizing AI-enabled development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Azure AI, OpenAI models, and Claude Code.

• Practical experience with LLM-based frameworks and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

• Experience in identifying, hiring, coaching, and scaling engineers in AI-assisted development methodologies.

• Experience in creating developer education programs, playbooks, best practices, or communities of practice.

• Experience acting as an internal SME providing architectural guidance.

• Ability to drive technical vision, architectural standards, and execution across complex, multi-team programs.

• Experience leading full SDLC and product lifecycle delivery in agile and hybrid environments.

• Experience implementing CI/CD, DevSecOps, TDD/BDD, automation frameworks, and quality engineering practices.

• Experience developing solutions within distributed, cross-functional, or geographically diverse teams.

• Full-stack development experience in various programming languages, including Java, JavaScript, Python, and .NET.

• Hands-on experience with front-end and back-end frameworks such as Angular, React, Spring Boot, Django, and Next.js.

• Experience integrating solutions across different operating systems and PaaS platforms such as Linux, Unix, RHEL, and OpenShift.

• Extensive experience with API/web service design, secure coding standards, and scalable architectural patterns.

• Preferred: Understanding of Federal acquisition and security compliance, including FedRAMP and ATO implications.

• Preferred: Experience in building enterprise AI-assisted development capabilities or platforms.

• Preferred: Experience in productizing internal capabilities into customer-facing solutions or services.

• Familiarity with AWS, Azure, GCP, and related AI/ML services.

• Experience managing vendor relationships with OEMs and ISVs.

• Expertise in CI/CD automation, IaC, Policy as Code, and governance automation frameworks such as Terraform and Ansible.
