Director, AI Architecture – B2C

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Design and develop AI IT systems that integrate business processes, customer experiences, applications, data, machine learning models, generative AI, and technology platforms.

• Lead the planning, evaluation, and enhancement of Generative AI, Agentic AI, and intelligent automation capabilities.

• Ensure a cohesive AI architecture across technology systems, data platforms, cloud and on-premises environments, and customer-facing digital channels.

• Create and oversee AI architecture blueprints, standards, reference architectures, and governance frameworks.

• Develop technical design recommendations for the integration of AI into products, services, and applications.

• Identify and address risks related to AI solutions, model performance, ethical AI considerations, security, compliance, and delivery.

• Establish and advocate for Responsible AI practices encompassing fairness, transparency, explainability, privacy, security, guardrails, observability, evaluations, model governance, and regulatory compliance.

• Attract, retain, mentor, recognize, and develop talent in AI architecture.

• Direct AI architecture and transformation strategies across various business units.

• Plan, troubleshoot, and advise technical teams on strategic, operational, secure, and cost-effective AI-enabled solutions.

• Participate in system specification reviews and translate requirements into scalable, explainable, secure, and sustainable AI, data, and software architectures.

• Research technologies, conduct proofs of concept and prototypes, and recommend foundational models, LLM platforms, AI agents, AI tools, and LLMOps/AIFinOps capabilities.

• Deliver AI-driven solutions that enhance customer experience, personalization, engagement, and operational efficiency.

• Provide architectural insights for business cases, considering feasibility, risks, enterprise alignment, AI value realization, guardrails, evaluations, observability, scalability, and Responsible AI implications.

• Lead organization-wide initiatives that integrate data, analytics, AI platforms, machine learning, and customer-facing technologies.

• Serve as a senior AI architect and strategic advisor throughout BMO.

• Build collaborative teams involving product management, AI engineering, risk, compliance, legal, and customer experience sectors.

• Communicate intricate AI concepts, business value, technical trade-offs, model risks, and governance requirements with clarity.

• Engage with internal and external networks, AI vendors, and cloud providers.

• Anticipate AI and customer trends and implement changes to foster innovation and competitive advantage.

• Apply BMO’s Risk Management Framework and adhere to relevant laws, regulations, AI governance, model risk management, privacy, cybersecurity, and Responsible AI standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Typically requires 9+ years of pertinent experience.

• A post-secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Extensive knowledge of the industry.

• Demonstrated thought leadership in innovation.

• Advanced proficiency in adaptability and banking operations.

• Expert-level skills in critical thinking, relationship management, risk assessment, regulatory compliance management, cloud architectures, security architecture design, technical architecture, infrastructure development, and IT strategies.

• Expertise in AI security, including LLM security, prompt injection mitigation, data privacy, Responsible AI controls, RBAC implementation, and compliance frameworks such as SOC, HIPAA, and GDPR.

• Proficient in cloud architecture across AWS AI Services and Azure AI Services.

• Security architecture expertise with AWS IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, Microsoft Entra ID, Key Vault, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Purview, and Azure Policy.

• Technical architecture expertise in LLM architecture and deployment, prompt engineering, RAG, vector databases, AI orchestration frameworks, agentic AI design patterns, multi-agent architecture, fine-tuning and model customization, and evaluations.

• Infrastructure development experience with CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Terraform, ARM Templates, and Bicep.
