Director, AI Architecture – B2C

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and architect AI IT systems that integrate business processes, customer experiences, applications, data, machine learning models, generative AI capabilities, and technology platforms.

• Lead the planning, evaluation, and optimization of Generative AI, Agentic AI, and intelligent automation capabilities.

• Ensure a cohesive AI architecture across technology systems, data platforms, cloud and on-premises environments, and digital channels.

• Create and manage AI architecture blueprints, standards, reference architectures, and governance frameworks.

• Develop technical design recommendations for the integration of machine learning, generative AI, intelligent automation, AI platforms, connectors, and MCP into products, services, and applications.

• Identify and mitigate risks related to AI solutions, model performance, ethical AI, security, compliance, and solution design.

• Establish and advocate for Responsible AI practices that address fairness, transparency, explainability, privacy, security, guardrails, observability, Evals, model governance, and regulatory compliance.

• Attract, retain, mentor, develop, and manage talent in AI architecture.

• Direct AI architecture and transformation strategies across various business units.

• Advise technical teams to optimize strategic, operational, secure, and economical AI-enabled solutions.

• Participate in system specification reviews and convert requirements into scalable, explainable, secure, and sustainable AI, data, and software architectures.

• Research technologies, conduct proofs of concept and prototypes, and recommend foundation models, LLM platforms, AI agents, AI tools, and LLMOps/AIFinOps capabilities.

• Deliver AI-powered solutions that enhance customer experience, personalization, engagement, and operational efficiency.

• Provide architectural insights for business cases regarding feasibility, risks, enterprise alignment, AI value realization, guardrails, Evals, observability, scalability, and Responsible AI.

• Lead enterprise-wide initiatives that integrate data, analytics, AI platforms, machine learning, and customer-facing technologies.

• Serve as a senior AI architect and strategic advisor throughout BMO.

• Build collaborative teams across product management, AI engineering, risk, compliance, legal, and customer experience.

• Clearly communicate complex AI concepts, business value, technical trade-offs, model risks, and governance requirements.

• Partner with AI vendors and cloud providers.

• Apply BMO’s Risk Management Framework and adhere to AI governance, model risk management, privacy, cybersecurity, and Responsible AI requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Typically requires 9+ years of relevant experience.

• A post-secondary degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Extensive industry knowledge.

• Thought leadership in innovation.

• Advanced proficiency in adaptability and banking operations.

• Expert proficiency in critical thinking, relationship building and management, risk assessment, regulatory compliance management, cloud architectures, security architecture design, technical architecture, infrastructure development, and IT strategies.

• Experience with LLM security, prompt injection mitigation, data privacy, Responsible AI controls, RBAC implementation, and compliance frameworks including SOC, HIPAA, and GDPR.

• Experience with AWS AI Services, including Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Bedrock Agent Core, Amazon Lex, Amazon Transcribe, Amazon Translate, and Kendra Knowledge Search.

• Experience with Azure AI Services, including Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI Service, Azure AI Search, Azure AI Vision, Azure AI Document Intelligence, Azure AI Language, Azure AI Speech, Azure Machine Learning, and Azure Bot Service.

• Experience with AWS and Azure security architecture tools, including IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, Microsoft Entra ID, Key Vault, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Purview, and Azure Policy.

• Expertise in LLM architecture and deployment, prompt engineering, RAG, vector databases, AI orchestration frameworks, agentic AI design patterns, multi-agent architecture, fine-tuning and model customization, and Evals.

• Experience with CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Terraform, ARM Templates, and Bicep.
