Director, Accounting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policies.

• Supervise general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and intricate accounting functions.

• Manage the annual external auditing process and act as the primary liaison with external auditors.

• Analyze financial outcomes, trends, and variances, sharing insights with the VP of Finance.

• Maintain and revise accounting policies and procedures, including the implementation of new accounting standards.

• Design, implement, and uphold effective internal controls.

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry-specific regulations.

• Identify financial and operational risks while recommending strategies for mitigation.

• Collaborate with the VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.

• Track performance against budget and forecasts.

• Provide ad hoc financial analysis and modeling.

• Collaborate with operational, sales, regulatory, compliance, IT, and other functional leaders.

• Work alongside risk management and actuarial resources on risk reporting, program and pricing reviews, and underwriter relationships.

• Drive improvements in accounting processes, system enhancements, and automation initiatives.

• Support the implementation and upgrades of financial systems.

• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.

• Set goals and expectations aligned with organizational priorities.

• Promote a collaborative, high-accountability culture.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

• CPA certification is mandatory.

• MBA is preferred.

• A minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 7 years in a leadership role.

• Strong expertise in GAAP, internal controls, and financial systems within a complex or regulated environment.

• Proven capacity for accounting leadership and people development.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

• Outstanding communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

• High integrity, sound judgment, and exceptional attention to detail.

• Continuous engagement with and inputting data to a computer screen.

• Willingness to travel as necessary (less than 10%).

• Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening prior to starting work.
