Digital Control Systems Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.

📋 Description

• Lead and cultivate a project team tasked with the design, integration, and testing of Grid Automation initiatives.

• Define, strategize, and execute SCADA, Substation Automation, Integrated Energy Management Solutions, Substation Networks, cybersecurity solutions, and related site services.

• Oversee the engineering team, establish team strategy, and set key performance indicators.

• Uphold high standards in project engineering, efficiency, and timely delivery.

• Monitor and manage resource utilization in collaboration with the Project Management Office.

• Develop offerings for Substation Automation Services.

• Lead, mentor, and nurture a diverse team across System Design, Integration, and Testing.

• Define and implement the vision and operational model for the Digital Control System Engineering organization.

• Promote technical excellence, collaboration, and ongoing improvement.

• Lead EHS/Safety initiatives and performance while ensuring adherence to GE rules and processes.

• Guarantee consistent, high-quality engineering deliverables and technical compliance.

• Analyze and optimize options within the automation portfolio, including DS Agile, IEMS, G500, GPG, and D20.

• Support bids and project execution by outlining system-level concepts and integration strategies.

• Collaborate with global engineering teams, project management, and supply chain on system integration and handover to commissioning.

• Encourage design standardization, digital engineering tools, and best practices within the DCS domain.

• Develop succession and competency enhancement plans.

• Foster talent growth through coaching, technical training, and cross-project exposure.

• Attract and retain top-performing engineers.

• Qualify and develop external resource contractors.

• Collaborate with NPI, Tendering, and Regional Commercial teams on technical strategy and resource deployment.

• Provide tender estimations and feedback on project delivery.

• Represent Digital Control System Engineering in technical forums, customer meetings, and audits.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Engineering degree from an accredited university or college.

• 8 years of experience in electricity and automation engineering, covering distribution automation, substation digitization, diagnostics, APM, device management, and cybersecurity.

• 3 years of experience in designing and programming electrical control systems, including SCADA/HMI, IEC 61850, firewalls, cybersecurity, and networking.

• 5 years of experience managing engineering teams.

• Fully fluent in English.

• Willingness to travel 30% within the US and Canada.

• Understanding of cyber asset protection regulations affecting the utilities sector, including NERC CIP and NIST.

• Familiarity with network communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC (DA, AE, UA), DNP3, and IEC 61850.

• Experience with smart grid technologies and renewable energy integration.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

• Successful completion of a drug screening, if applicable.

• Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science is preferred.

• Professional Engineering License is preferred.

• Previous experience in a multicultural environment is preferred.
