DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Assist in the modernization and enhancement of the company’s application infrastructure.

• Implement platform upgrades, security enhancements, disaster recovery capabilities, and dependable deployment processes.

• Play an active role in major-version upgrades of PostgreSQL, compatibility testing, and validating queries/performance.

• Patch, upgrade, and manage Debian/Linux operating systems, including security hardening efforts.

• Develop and test disaster recovery solutions, including failover processes and regular DR testing.

• Construct and sustain CI/CD pipelines for consistent and repeatable application and infrastructure deployments.

• Administer, maintain, and optimize Apache Tomcat application servers that support the customized Java application stack.

• Provide Linux systems administration, encompassing monitoring, capacity planning, backups, and incident response.

• Diagnose production issues across the operating system, database, and application layers.

• Assist in infrastructure engineering, maintenance, and troubleshooting across various projects.

• Offer infrastructure expertise for new project environments, deployments, and technology initiatives.

• Keep technical documentation and operational records up to date.

• Enhance infrastructure, deployment, and operational processes to ensure reliability, security, and control.

• Support compliance with ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 standards.

• Collaborate with Development and broader Infrastructure teams on business and technology initiatives.

• Raise concerns, assist with audits, and contribute to ongoing process improvements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated hands-on experience as a Linux Systems Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer, or a similar role, preferably in Debian/Ubuntu environments.

• Practical experience in administering PostgreSQL, including major-version upgrades.

• Proficiency in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar.

• Experience with administering Apache Tomcat or comparable Java application servers.

• Background in developing and testing disaster recovery solutions.

• Strong troubleshooting abilities across operating systems, databases, and application layers.

• Knowledge of security hardening, access controls, system auditing, and logging practices.

• Scripting skills in languages such as Bash or Python for automating routine administrative tasks are a plus.

• Excellent communication skills and the capacity to work independently while coordinating with Development and broader Infrastructure teams.

• Familiarity with or practical experience in ISO 27001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 management system frameworks (or equivalent) is advantageous.

• Adhere to relevant company policies, procedures, work instructions, and legal/regulatory requirements.

• Follow requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and Good Distribution Practice.

• Complete necessary training and maintain proficiency in the role.

• Ensure accurate, complete, and timely record-keeping.

• Promptly report deviations, incidents, non-conformances, and other concerns.
