Development Communications Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Assist the UCS Development Team in securing $40–$50M in annual funding.

• Develop specialized fundraising materials for Major and Mid-Level Donors as well as Family Foundations.

• Work closely with internal teams to create proposals, reports, and communications for donors.

• Convert program priorities and action plans into engaging narratives for donors.

• Provide prompt donor communications regarding program updates, accomplishments, and relevant news events.

• Craft solutions-oriented, impact-focused narratives utilizing data, visuals, and storytelling techniques.

• Distribute updated donor-ready program language throughout the Development department.

• Oversee and coordinate comprehensive communications, including acknowledgment letters, appeals, cultivation mailings, and event invitations.

• Create three to five donor program briefs each year.

• Manage projects involving Development, Communications, and Data teams, including lists, vendors, and content creation.

• Maintain the proposal/report calendar for major donors and family foundations.

• Compile, draft, design, and adapt materials as needed.

• Prepare briefing materials for donor meetings and carry out copy-editing and writing tasks.

• Ensure precise data management and categorization for donor and prospect audiences.

• Coordinate, oversee, and provide technical guidance to project staff, interns, fellows, consultants, and volunteers as assigned.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5–7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising.

• At least 5 years of experience in development writing.

• Exceptional oral and written communication abilities.

• Experience in major gifts or foundation fundraising, including direct donor interaction and solicitation, is advantageous.

• Familiarity with donor tracking systems is a plus.

• Capacity to manage intricate projects and multiple tasks with meticulous attention to detail and follow-through.

• Ability to plan, organize, and communicate effectively.

• Skill in collaborating successfully with colleagues both within and outside the Development department.

• Proven success in managing and prioritizing tasks related to the creation of successful and compelling proposals and reports.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage relationships and multiple tasks efficiently.

• Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and constituent databases.

• Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Mission CRM, Lexis, Microsoft Dynamics, and/or DonorSearch is a plus.

• Capability to work remotely, independently, and collaboratively in a team setting.

• Bachelor’s degree is required; equivalent training and/or experience may substitute for degrees when appropriate.
