This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.
• Lead and oversee a cross-functional design team consisting of product designers, UX researchers, and other design specialists.
• Manage personnel and steer multiple interconnected product areas.
• Establish processes and methodologies for addressing design challenges and facilitate collaboration among cross-functional teams.
• Define problems and guide solutions for ambiguous problem areas using a comprehensive product-experience perspective.
• Articulate design rationale through storytelling and build trust with partners and stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively at all levels within the organization.
• Eliminate low-yield activities and reallocate work based on impact and success metrics.
• Collaborate with cross-functional peers and stakeholders to ensure alignment and nurture long-term relationships.
• Recruit, develop, and maintain a high-performing team.
• Encourage shared accountability, operational excellence, partnership, and continuous enhancement.
• Support employee engagement and uphold Thrivent’s purpose, promise, values, trust, and reputation.
• Work alongside cross-functional design, product, organizational, engineering, and executive teams through management, presentations, and collaboration.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Interaction Design, UI/UX Design, Product Design, UX Research, Software Development, or a related combination of education and experience.
• Over 8 years of experience in a relevant field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in user experience, interaction design, product design, and research within a product development team.
• At least 3 years of managerial experience.
• Experience working with Engineering, Product, and Business owners to prioritize tasks and identify high-impact opportunities.
• Ability to motivate, inspire, and organize a team of 5–8 designers and researchers.
• Capability to make decisions regarding team allocation, trade-offs, and prioritization.
• Exceptional communication and persuasion skills.
• Understanding of product impact and success metrics.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional peers and drive organizational transformation.
• Experience in talent management, recruiting, hiring, and professional development.
• Strategic mindset and capability to develop processes for solving design problems.
• Familiarity with design systems and agile methodologies within a product team framework.
• Preferred: Strategic design thinking and the ability to contribute to organizational design strategy.
• Preferred: Knowledge and experience in financial services, particularly in wealth management.
