This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Delivering legal services and counsel on various legal issues relevant to the operations of Calbright College.
• Creating and examining contracts, while also researching and evaluating statutes, regulations, and pertinent case law.
• Offering guidance to departments and divisions within the College.
• Formulating and enforcing policies and procedures to enhance the functioning of the General Counsel’s office and the College as a whole.
• Assisting the General Counsel in addressing legal concerns or requirements of departments, the Executive Team, and the College Board of Trustees.
• Aiding the General Counsel with the management of the College's legal matters.
• Composing new and revised policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Participating in meetings of the Calbright Board of Trustees in the absence of the General Counsel.
• Providing legal advice to College officials, including staff and the Executive Team.
• Representing the College in mediation, arbitration, administrative hearings, and judicial proceedings as necessary.
• Preparing, drafting, and assessing a range of complex legal documents.
• Equivalent to a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible legal experience, with at least two (2) years in California in a legal field relevant to the operations of a public agency or higher education institution.
• Must maintain good standing with the State Bar of California and hold a current license to practice law in the State of California.
• Experience with California Community College Districts is highly preferred.
