This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Offer general legal counsel and guidance to non-attorney business stakeholders.
• Provide advice on compliance, consumer protection, cybersecurity, data privacy, and employment laws applicable in the United States and Canada.
• Negotiate, evaluate, and draft employment and commercial contracts, which include subscription agreements, SaaS contracts, NDAs, leases, advertising and media contracts, and time-and-materials agreements.
• Examine corporate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Conduct legal research relevant to current and upcoming business initiatives.
• Assess advertising and promotional materials for adherence to state consumer protection statutes.
• Oversee data and technology licensing activities, as well as software and professional services agreements, including trademark clearance and usage.
• Provide strategic insights for new business opportunities and potential or ongoing litigation.
• Manage potential or ongoing litigation in collaboration with outside counsel, including the review or drafting of motions and pleadings.
• Assist with due diligence in mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance matters.
• Maintain the integrity and reputation of Cars.com.
• Work in partnership with key stakeholders and senior and executive leaders throughout the organization.
• Active license in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
• General corporate experience in a law firm or in-house legal department performing similar roles and responsibilities.
• Proven experience in reviewing and negotiating complex commercial and employment contracts.
• Familiarity with U.S. and Canadian employment, consumer protection, data privacy, as well as federal and state civil procedure laws.
• Experience in litigation or litigation management.
• Exceptional strategic and analytical capabilities.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in an e-commerce, technology, or automotive-related company is preferred.
• Knowledge of legal issues related to product development, U.S. federal and state data security and privacy regulations, and fintech is preferred.
