Deputy Director of Conservation Communications

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead internal and external communications for The Nature Conservancy’s North America conservation initiatives.

• Supervise or lead the development and execution of communication strategies that align with conservation program and fundraising objectives.

• Manage traditional media, social media, events, and initiatives related to visual and written storytelling.

• Oversee two or more staff members.

• Facilitate effective communication throughout the organization, particularly within the North America Marketing and Communications Division and associated programs/operating units.

• Collaborate with senior executives to enhance communication channels and staff engagement.

• Build and sustain relationships with key media contacts.

• Provide coaching and training on media interactions, presentations, and writing skills.

• Design, oversee, and manage intricate projects and initiatives.

• Coordinate professionals, manage budgets, and ensure accountability of programs.

• Achieve strategic goals and objectives.

• Assess financial and program outcomes and devise corrective strategies.

• Contribute to departmental budgeting processes.

• Make decisions that impact public image and organization-wide programs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field along with a minimum of 9 years of related work experience, or a suitable combination of education and experience.

• Proven experience in managing staff and teams.

• Expertise in developing communication, media, and engagement strategies and assessing their effectiveness.

• Skilled in cultivating and managing client relationships.

• Experience in developing and leading complex projects or programs, including financial oversight and evaluating strategic plans and outcomes.

• Management experience, including the capability to motivate and lead teams, set objectives, manage performance, and assist with conflict resolution in a multidisciplinary environment.

• Exceptional internal and external communication and presentation skills.

• Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.

• Understanding of communication best practices within a decentralized organization.

• Demonstrated interest and/or experience in issues related to human rights and partnerships with Tribal nations and Indigenous leaders.

• Outstanding communication, mediation, and negotiation abilities.

• Experience in fostering a creative environment and promoting professional growth.

• Proven capability in planning and managing budgets.

• The successful candidate must fulfill The Nature Conservancy’s background screening requirements.
