DBA, Bulk Data Management Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of all databases supporting Webbing's multi-site telecom services platform, which includes BSS/OSS/NOC modules and PostgreSQL application stores.

• Oversee interfaces to vendor-managed databases within HSS, OCS, PCRF, and SMSC network nodes.

• Ensure that mediation pipelines consistently and thoroughly transfer network data into the necessary systems.

• Develop frameworks for backup, restoration, and disaster recovery for BSS and network-layer PostgreSQL clusters.

• Formulate strategies for performance optimization, focusing on indexes, query tuning, table partitioning, and vacuum schedules.

• Construct bulk data pipelines for importing, exporting, migrating, and scheduling purges of subscriber CDRs and event records.

• Design and implement data handling, retention, archival, and compliance policies in accordance with GDPR, operator SLAs, and internal standards.

• Create monitoring dashboards and alerts using Prometheus and Grafana for database performance.

• Develop playbooks for the installation and upgrade of PostgreSQL instances.

• Facilitate cross-platform data integration between BSS mediation and network-element databases, which include HSS, OCS, PCRF, SMSC, and PGW.

• Provide guidance to BSS and Workflow engineering teams on schema and data architecture.

• Set up database access controls, roles, privileges, row-level security, and audit logging.

• Maintain runbooks and a knowledge base for database operations, disaster recovery, and incident response.

• Act as the primary individual contributor and expert in database management across the BSS and NOC stack.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration, including installation, configuration, replication (logical/streaming), upgrades, and vacuum tuning.

• Demonstrated experience in backup and restoration procedures, including pg_dump, pg_basebackup, WAL archiving, point-in-time recovery, and DR testing.

• Proficient in query performance analysis utilizing EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, index design (B-Tree, partial, composite), and schema-level optimization.

• Skilled in bulk data operations involving large COPY/INSERT loads, logical replication for live migrations, and automated purge/archival pipelines.

• Knowledgeable in data governance, including the design and documentation of retention, archival, masking, and access-control policies.

• Proficient in scripting with Python or Bash for automating backup jobs, health-check scripts, and bulk-load utilities.

• Experience with containerized database deployments using Docker or Kubernetes.

• Familiar with monitoring setups, including Prometheus postgres_exporter and building Grafana dashboards for database KPIs.

• Understanding of high-availability patterns, including replication failover, connection pooling (PgBouncer/Pgpool), and read-replica routing.

• Capable of working independently on multiple concurrent projects within a distributed, asynchronous team.

• Experience with multi-datacenter replication and active-passive failover between geographically distributed clusters.

• Strong Advantage: Background in telecoms BSS/OSS platforms (billing, subscription management, or mediation systems).

• Strong Advantage: Familiarity with network-element databases such as HSS (HLR), OCS, PCRF, SMSC, or PGW data models.

• Strong Advantage: Experience with data compliance (GDPR subscriber data, CDR retention regulations in EU regions).

• Nice to Have: Exposure to mediation layer data formats like ASN.1, IPDR, or Diameter AVPs.

• Nice to Have: Experience with BI or reporting extracts from operational BSS databases.
