This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Netherlands.
• Take ownership of all databases that support the multi-site telecom platform, encompassing core BSS/OSS/NOC modules and PostgreSQL application stores.
• Oversee interfaces to vendor-managed databases within HSS, OCS, PCRF, and SMSC network nodes.
• Ensure the reliability, completeness, and governance of mediation pipelines that transfer network data into necessary systems, adhering to clear data-handling policies.
• Construct a comprehensive backup, restoration, and disaster recovery framework for BSS and network-layer PostgreSQL clusters.
• Implement performance optimizations involving indexing strategies, query tuning, table partitioning, and vacuuming schedules.
• Develop bulk data pipelines for the import, export, migration, and scheduled purging of subscriber CDRs and event records.
• Design and enforce policies for data handling, retention, archival, and compliance.
• Create monitoring dashboards for databases with alerts for replication lag, lock contention, query performance, and disk saturation.
• Generate installation and upgrade playbooks for PostgreSQL instances.
• Foster cross-platform data integration between BSS mediation and network-element databases.
• Provide guidance to BSS and Workflow engineering teams regarding schema and data architecture.
• Set up database access controls, roles, privileges, row-level security, and audit logging.
• Maintain runbooks and a knowledge base related to database operations, disaster recovery, and incident response.
• Extensive hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration, including installation, configuration, replication (logical/streaming), upgrades, and vacuum tuning.
• Demonstrated expertise in backup and restore processes, including pg_dump, pg_basebackup, WAL archiving, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery testing.
• Proficient in query performance analysis using EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, index design (B-Tree, partial, composite), and schema-level optimization.
• Experienced in bulk data operations, such as large COPY/INSERT loads, logical replication for live migrations, and automated purge/archival pipelines.
• Knowledgeable in data governance, including designing and documenting retention, archival, masking, and access-control policies.
• Skilled in scripting with Python or Bash to automate backup tasks, health-check scripts, and bulk-load utilities.
• Familiarity with containerized database deployments, such as Docker or Kubernetes.
• Proficient in monitoring setups, including configuring Prometheus postgres_exporter and creating Grafana dashboards for database KPIs.
• Understanding of high-availability patterns, including replication failover, connection pooling (PgBouncer / Pgpool), and read-replica routing.
• Ability to work independently on multiple concurrent projects within a distributed, asynchronous team environment.
• Experience with multi-datacenter replication and active-passive failover between geographically distributed clusters.
• Previous exposure to telecom BSS/OSS platforms (billing, subscription management, or mediation systems) is a significant asset.
• Familiarity with network-element databases such as HSS (HLR), OCS, PCRF, SMSC, or PGW data models is a considerable advantage.
• Experience with data compliance, particularly with GDPR subscriber data and CDR retention regulations in EU jurisdictions, is a notable advantage.
• Exposure to mediation layer data formats like ASN.1, IPDR, and Diameter AVPs is a nice-to-have.
• Experience with BI or reporting extracts from operational BSS databases is also a nice-to-have.
• Fully remote work environment.
• Excellent opportunities for skill and knowledge development.
• Chance to be part of a highly skilled team of professionals in an international setting.
