Database Engineer – Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee and provide support for PostgreSQL environments hosted on AWS (Amazon RDS/Aurora)

• Supervise databases, executing backups, snapshots, restorations, and regular maintenance tasks

• Handle snapshot retention, restoration, and refresh activities across production, lower, reporting, and testing environments

• Offer database and migration assistance for application deployments, which includes schema alterations, data corrections, rollback strategies, and deployment verification

• Track health metrics, storage levels, connections, locks, long-running queries, vacuum/analyze tasks, and replication status

• Conduct SQL performance tuning via query optimization, indexing strategies, execution-plan evaluations, and table upkeep

• Diagnose incidents and performance hindrances across databases, pipelines, and application connectivity

• Oversee database security, role management, access provisioning, and audit compliance

• Design, construct, and sustain data pipelines utilizing Python, SQL, and AWS data services

• Assist with CDC and streaming frameworks utilizing AWS DMS, AWS Kinesis, Debezium, and Amazon MSK/Apache Kafka

• Facilitate near-real-time data transfers from PostgreSQL to reporting schemas, data lakes, Snowflake, and Databricks

• Create automation scripts for data transfer, validation, reconciliation, and operational support

• Collaborate with application, DevOps, data platform, reporting/analytics, QA, and business teams

• Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of data quality challenges

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

• Proficiency in advanced SQL

• Experience in AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL administration, which includes monitoring, backup/restoration, snapshots, and environment refreshes

• Expertise in advanced SQL performance tuning, including query optimization, indexing, and execution plans

• Proficient in Python for data engineering, automation, and pipeline creation

• Must have resided in the United States for at least three out of the last five years

• Availability required during Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm EST core hours

• NACI (T1) public trust eligibility required

• Travel requirement is less than 10%

• Preferred: Experience with CDC/streaming using AWS DMS, AWS Kinesis, Debezium, Amazon MSK/Apache Kafka; logical replication, WAL, and replication slot management

• Preferred: Knowledge in data pipeline design and operations for ingestion, transformation, and migration; near-real-time data movement into Snowflake, Databricks, or data lakes

• Preferred: Skills in troubleshooting database, SQL, pipeline, and integration performance; release-related database scripting/support

• Preferred: Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools, orchestration/workflow automation, shell scripting, Git, CI/CD, Agile/Scrum, or SAFe environments

• Preferred: Understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata/lineage, and reconciliation processes

• Preferred: Experience with regulated enterprise systems such as healthcare, government, or financial sectors
