Staff Software Engineer – Back End

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services within a microservices architecture.

• Create and implement REST and SOAP-based services as well as integrations.

• Enhance and support the existing enterprise Java platform.

• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve intricate software defects and production challenges.

• Develop and optimize SQL queries, data access patterns, and integrations with Oracle databases.

• Collaborate with architects and senior engineers on modernization projects and technical designs.

• Document systems, refactor code, automate testing, and enhance existing systems.

• Contribute to CI/CD processes, application deployments, and engineering quality assurance.

• Engage in Agile ceremonies and technical discussions with partners and stakeholders.

• Conduct code reviews, impart technical knowledge, and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.

• Plan and execute technical roadmaps and complex engineering tasks with minimal supervision.

• Present technical topics, trade-offs, risks, and costs to inform decision-making.

• Communicate systems and design decisions for demonstrations, bid preparations, and client interactions.

• Participate in technical interviews and assess engineering candidates.

• Occasionally travel to collaborate with and present to clients, partners, and stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, along with 10+ years of professional software development experience.

• Relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education.

• Over 8 years of hands-on Java development experience.

• More than 5 years of practical experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot.

• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in developing REST APIs and web services within a microservices framework.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience with Oracle or another relational database.

• Experience in designing, developing, troubleshooting, and supporting production-level enterprise applications.

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.

• Experience with Git-based source control systems.

• Strong skills in troubleshooting, analysis, and problem-solving.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with teammates, partners, and stakeholders in a distributed setting.

• Preferred: experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka.

• Preferred: experience with caching technologies like Redis.

• Preferred: ability to design resilient external integrations using circuit breakers, retry logic, timeout handling, and graceful failure.

• Preferred: knowledge of legacy J2EE technologies such as Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, and WebLogic.

• Preferred: experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Preferred: strong automated testing practices utilizing JUnit and Mockito.

• Preferred: experience in modernizing or decomposing monolithic applications into microservices.

• Preferred: experience supporting both concurrent legacy and modernized architectures.

• Preferred: previous experience in FedRAMP, FISMA, HIPAA, or similarly regulated environments.
