This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more locations.
• Manage and provide support for PostgreSQL database environments, focusing mainly on Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server.
• Guarantee high availability, resilience, performance, and security of production PostgreSQL systems.
• Execute backup and recovery processes, point-in-time restores, patching, upgrades, performance tuning, capacity management, and maintenance tasks.
• Set up and enhance PostgreSQL technologies and features, including MVCC, VACUUM/autovacuum, WAL, replication, indexing, statistics, roles and privileges, and extensions.
• Design and support capabilities of Azure PostgreSQL, such as high availability, read replicas, private networking, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Implement PostgreSQL security measures, authentication protocols, TLS, least-privilege access, auditing, and Microsoft Entra ID integration where applicable.
• Monitor and resolve issues related to query performance, locking, long-running transactions, connection utilization, replication lag, storage, and overall database health.
• Assist in connection management and pooling solutions like PgBouncer.
• Engage in cloud transformation and database migration projects, including the transition of workloads to PostgreSQL.
• Support Database DevOps, infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and Azure DevOps.
• Take part in incident, problem, and change management processes.
• Maintain operational documentation, standards, runbooks, and assist with project onboarding activities.
• Provide PostgreSQL technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to fellow database professionals.
• Participate in on-call rotations and provide out-of-hours support as needed.
• Over 5 years of experience managing PostgreSQL environments, including mission-critical production systems.
• Strong background in PostgreSQL administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL internals such as MVCC, VACUUM/autovacuum, WAL, query planning, statistics, indexing, locking, and transaction management.
• Experience in designing and operating highly available and resilient PostgreSQL environments.
• Proficient in backup, point-in-time recovery, replication, disaster recovery, patching, and major-version upgrades.
• Experience with Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server or similar enterprise-managed PostgreSQL services.
• Knowledge of Azure networking and security concepts pertinent to managed databases, including private connectivity, DNS, identity, and access control.
• Experience managing PostgreSQL roles, privileges, authentication, extensions, and security configurations.
• Strong SQL skills with a proven ability to diagnose and optimize complex queries.
• Linux administration and shell scripting capabilities.
• Familiarity with automation and Infrastructure as Code in cloud environments.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• Experience working within formal incident and change management frameworks.
• Extensive experience with Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server in enterprise production settings.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL migration and assessment tools, including migrations from Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience in Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server administration.
• Knowledge of PgBouncer and application connection-pooling patterns.
• Awareness of PostgreSQL observability tools and integration with Azure Monitor.
• Experience with Terraform for automated database provisioning.
• Experience integrating PostgreSQL with data platforms like Microsoft Fabric or Snowflake.
• Capability to establish PostgreSQL engineering standards, operational runbooks, and production-readiness controls.
• Experience in the financial services or investment management sector.
• Proficient with Azure DevOps pipelines and Git workflows.
