This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee and manage production PostgreSQL databases hosted on Amazon RDS and Aurora across development, staging, and production environments.
• Monitor and optimize database performance using Performance Insights, pg_stat_statements, and EXPLAIN ANALYZE, focusing on indexing, vacuuming, and query optimization.
• Strategically plan and implement major-version upgrades and configuration changes with minimal downtime through blue/green deployments and logical replication.
• Take responsibility for backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes, including point-in-time recovery, cross-region snapshots, and regular restore drills to meet agreed RTO and RPO targets.
• Evaluate schema migrations from application teams utilizing Knex and TypeORM, ensuring zero-downtime change practices such as concurrent index builds and expand/contract techniques.
• Manage database infrastructure as code using Terraform and Terragrunt, implemented through GitHub Actions pipelines.
• Enforce database security measures such as least-privilege roles, encryption, credential rotation via AWS Secrets Manager, and audit logging with pgAudit.
• Handle connection pooling, high availability, and failover management using RDS Proxy or PgBouncer alongside Multi-AZ configurations.
• Assist data and BI teams with read replicas, replication processes, and secure connections to Amazon Redshift and ELT tooling.
• Establish database alerting and runbooks, while participating in an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 reliability.
• Monitor and optimize database expenditures, including instance sizing, storage, IOPS selection, and reserved capacity management.
• Collaborate with backend, DevOps, and data teams to provide reliable and well-structured data services.
• Extensive experience in administering PostgreSQL 14+ in production environments, including MVCC, vacuum tuning, WAL, replication, and lock behavior.
• Strong practical knowledge of Amazon RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL, covering parameter groups, Performance Insights, Enhanced Monitoring, and blue/green deployments.
• Demonstrated backup and recovery expertise, including actual restore exercises and cross-region recovery capabilities.
• Proficient in Terraform and Git-based workflows for effective database infrastructure management.
• Solid scripting capabilities in Python, Bash, or SQL for automation, health checks, and reporting purposes.
• In-depth understanding of schema design, query optimization, and indexing strategies tailored for high-transaction workloads.
• Familiarity with Redis/ElastiCache and MongoDB administration.
• Knowledge of database security and compliance obligations (PCI DSS, GDPR) concerning customer and payment data.
• Comfortable working within a multi-account AWS environment utilizing SSO and CI/CD-driven deployments.
• Ability to produce clear runbooks, post-mortems, and change plans that can be easily followed by other engineers.
• Experience in iGaming, Sportsbook, or Fintech platforms.
• Background with Amazon Redshift or similar columnar data warehouse, along with ELT tools such as Airbyte or AWS Glue.
• Experience using PostgreSQL extensions and tools like pgAudit, pg_partman, and pg_repack.
• Familiarity with observability tools (Grafana, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch) in high-traffic environments.
• Knowledge of Node.js ORMs and migration tools (Knex, TypeORM, Prisma).
• Understanding of event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and change data capture (Debezium).
• AWS Certified Database Specialty or Solutions Architect certification.
