This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Oversee the daily administration of Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle databases, which includes installation, configuration, and patch management.
• Monitor the health, performance, and job scheduling of databases, escalating issues to senior DBAs as necessary.
• Carry out routine backup and recovery processes and assist with periodic disaster recovery testing.
• Manage database user access requests, role management, and conduct security audits in line with agency policies.
• Aid in data migration activities related to the customer's ongoing cloud modernization and data center consolidation initiatives.
• Compose and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts from basic to intermediate levels to support operational requirements.
• Ensure accurate documentation of database configurations, schedules, and standard operating procedures is maintained.
• Address database-related incident tickets through ServiceNow and engage in root cause analysis.
• Take part in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours database support as required.
• Support Koniag IT Systems and its federal government client in Washington, DC.
• Contribute to the customer's AWS migration and cloud modernization projects.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 4 years of experience in administering Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle databases.
• Practical knowledge of database backup, recovery, and fundamental performance tuning concepts.
• Expertise in writing SQL queries and resolving routine database issues.
• Familiarity with database security and access control methods.
• Understanding of ITSM ticketing and change management procedures.
• Capability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Eligibility to obtain public trust clearance.
• Experience within a federal government IT environment.
• Knowledge of compliance frameworks such as FedRAMP, FISMA, or NIST.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Database certification, or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.
• Familiarity with AWS RDS or cloud-hosted database settings.
• Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms.
